mctwistuk
Last scoob I had I opted for an ecutek Andy f remap and it was superb. Since then I have read a lot of people have gone open source and it does look cheaper but what don't you get that you do with ecutek? Who does open source mapping in Scotland and roughly what does it cost? Chris Link to comment
lewisscoob
Andy does open source. What year is your car? For me there were no advantages to going open source and for my year the EcuTek software offers launch control. The obvious down side to EcuTek is paying for a license, you can save on this by purchasing a licensed ECU and havin Andy recode the keys in to the new ECU. I was quoted 280 for open source with him. The same cost for EcuTek mapping if I supply him a licensed ECU. Edited March 16, 2013 by lewisscoob Link to comment
mctwistuk
I have an 04 plate sti. Does open source give switchable maps? Chris Link to comment
lewisscoob
I don't know if it is available on OS but twin boost settings are available on EcuTek. Link to comment
scoobywho
Chris ecuedit can do switchable maps and launch control, mine was done at trackhound but he is away abroad now. Link to comment
scouk
As above, I used open-source mapping on my car (Bug WRX) and have both Launch Control & dual map switching enabled along with a rev restricted valet mode You can also get the Flatfoot shifting on the later models which have Drive By Wire throttle Link to comment
mctwistuk
So really you get same as ecutek but around £150 less money? Surely there must be downsides? Chris Link to comment
scouk
Not a huge amount really. Both do the same thing and allow the same mapping abilities on the ECU. ECUTek is a licenced piece of software whereas opensource isn't licensed, it's built by enthusiasts. The opensource project has been on the go for many years now and has a fair following! Hopefully a ECUTEk mapper will be along soon to clarify any functionality differences there may be, but from what I've seen its very difficult to justify ecutek over opensource. Especially where the open source projects are today! From the mappers point of view the licenced product has some comeback if the software itself fails and bricks an ECU. But this is highly unlikely to happen. In the years I've followed the open source mapping I've never heard of that being an issue. ECU's have bene bricked but that's because the operators of the software mad mistkes, the software was not at fault. Link to comment
