Ovv Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Mrs and I are due our 1st child in November, so should I upgrade to something newer whilst Ive got the chance or stick with the classic for another couple of years til our finances recover ? Been mulling this over for a few weeks now, and I just cant decide what to do. Selling the classic and not replacing it with another scoob is out of the question though.
scooby222 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 last bits the important bit got to ask what sort of budget youd have to replace it? its a cracker youve got but its going to be an uphill struggle to keep it that way for another 2 or 3 years. on the other hand i dont think a standardish newage wrx would cut it for you :s

Found a WRX Hawkeye very close to me that has had a lot of extra already added, Tein coilover adjustable suspension, 18" Prodrive PFF7 alloys and Godspeed brakes, STI rear spoiler and some other bits and pieces. High road tax though I think.
05WRX Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Get the hawk WRX now!! If you don't, by the time you want to replace the classic in a few years time i can guarentee the other half will be "oh well it's this and it's that, what's wrong with the one you have already.... and fuel economy and blah blah blah............ LETS GET A CITROEN PICASSO life pretty much over. Ecosse has a black Hawk WRX STi if your interested.......probably within budget.
Ovv Posted July 13, 2011 Author Posted July 13, 2011 Ecosse has a black Hawk WRX STi if your interested.......probably within budget. Did notice that today, however its mileage is higher than the classic... also noticed a GB270 on the website... what about a black blobeye wrx ppp with extras maybe, hadn't given it much thought since last time you mentioned it, this caught me eye though...autotrader
gus the bus Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Found myself in the same boat recently whether to keep the classic or not................quickly came to my senses and kept it. So, you know where my vote goes
scooby222 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 id go loooking for a jdm 2.0 hawkeye sti - if your going to do it do it right
marko72 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Thats a nice looking wrx hawk you have linked too........
scooby222 Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 hey! less of the stoopid Lewis! and well done, i hear you managed to leave alford without reversing into Dales car
Ovv Posted July 14, 2011 Author Posted July 14, 2011 (edited) id go loooking for a jdm 2.0 hawkeye sti - if your going to do it do it right Something like this -Litchfield would be nice, sadly its outside of my budget. Edited July 14, 2011 by Ovv
BalliSTIc Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 id go loooking for a jdm 2.0 hawkeye sti - if your going to do it do it right So why have you started a different thread asking about a JDM Hatch? Hmmm? Chris, keep the classic mate. Re-read the first option from your own poll... you already know the answer!
Ovv Posted July 16, 2011 Author Posted July 16, 2011 Chris, keep the classic mate. Re-read the first option from your own poll... you already know the answer! Thats what my heart says, however my sensible head says change to a newer version so I can run it all year round. Felt like a bit of a idiot for keeping it off the road over winter especially when I couldn't get up our street in the snow even though I had a perfectly capable scoob in the garage. Went out with a mate for a few pints last night, came home and had the advert written up for Pistonheads but didn't submit it... dunno, still not sure what to do.
rig-pig Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 i did the same thing with the classic as their is a bit more room in the back for baby seat in the newage, also the car is a comfier ride that the classic and not so much chance of rust issues
ur.a.bus Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 i did the same thing with the classic as their is a bit more room in the back for baby seat in the newage, also the car is a comfier ride that the classic and not so much chance of rust issues same here, sold the classic last summer. recaro fits nice in the isofix points too, that was my main point for why i needed 1 steve
Ovv Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 Went to Autoecosse today to see what they had on offer, choices included a '57 GB270 and also a black '55 Hawk STI. Black Hawk had more miles than the classic, which made Steve the salesman laugh GB270 looked nice, but over budget and I point blank refuse to pay the road tax of four hundred quid. Steve's opinion was to keep hold of the classic, which kinda got me thinking, should I retire the car, stick it in storage and keep it as a show car only. On another point, looking to replace the Mrs's Audi with something thats 4wd, Diesel WRX Hatch anyone.....
scooby222 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 i think if you get a newer one and use it all the time youl have a job to keep it as clean as the classic and youl start to resent the fuel bills running it all the time. it is a lovely classic and with great but subtle mods - if you can restrict it to dry season use and perfect the finish for show and odd blast car then that sounds ideal to me
C_WRX Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Just been through exactly what you are with what to do. My blobeye was more of a show-n-shine toy...2500 miles the last full year I had it. Family is growing and a new job meant I'd have to use it Monday-Friday. I actually thought that I could've managed space wise with all the kiddy accessories, it was more the bumps/scrapes/scratches and the cost of running it in boringly slow traffic that made me decide to move it on. Do I wish I still had it - absolutely . Did I do the right thing - probably ! At the end of the day keeping something worth what it was locked away in the garage seemed a little pointless - tax/MOT/servicing all for the sake of a run now and again just didn't add up. Okay so I may never find something as immaculate as it was again, but hey, had fun while I had it.

Getting a newer one doesn't necessarily mean Im going to drive it more than the classic, but the option to have the use of it over the winter time is more appealing. The classic hasn't seen a winter for at least four years, thats certainly helped to keep it in such good condition. At the moment I swaying towards getting the small marks on the roof seen to and get the front bumper resprayed and use it as a show and shine car and weekend runabout only, this would allow me take the money I would be spending on a newer one and put it towards a nicer 4WD SUV / Family Wagon next year when the Audi is up for renewal. But the question of whats the Classic worth is stuck in my head too.. This sucks.
rig-pig Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 not much seems to be moving just now when selling impreza's and the prob is you dont get the cash for them i would prob keep the classic and put the cash to a 4x4 when you get rid of the Audi but you will find the space in the scoob bad with a baby seat in the back, if its just you and the wee one in the scoob its fine as the front seat will be far forward not so good with the wife in the car unless she is about 4ft
scooby222 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 i know mate theresa case for both sides i think if you can manage to keep it in good condition with low miles for another 2 or 3 years the number of straight original uk turbos will be so few that the value goes up, then upgrade to a hawkeye - or save enough to keep the classic AND get a hawk
Ovv Posted July 19, 2011 Author Posted July 19, 2011 or save enough to keep the classic AND get a hawk That's a great idea, now how do I sell that idea to the Mrs? I might try a compromise when it comes to getting shot of the Audi, go for something cheaper than what we originally looked at, that way any extra money saved between now and then and the saving on getting a cheaper family wagon will maybe allow me to get a blob or a lower banded tax hawk. I have my suspicions that next year I will be out in the Classic less due to the baby coming along any ways, plus I don't want the interior covered in baby . So there is a good chance that it won't even be near the 2.5k per year that I did since MOT time last year.
