d5orr Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 evening all! i have a Scoobyworld afterburner vortex backbox on my car and the tip or exit part at the end has come clean of the backbox! it says on the website they have a 25 year guarantee has anyone had to use this guarantee before? note it wasnt me who bought the exhaust it was on the car when i bought it
scouk Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Yeow! That's unheard of.. These exahusts are made by Hayward and Scott who are arguably the best in the business! A failure like that sounds pretty serious! Not to mention very rare! Don't have one but was looking to order one next month.. Hope you can get it sorted quickly with little fuss Keep us posted
d5orr Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 Yeh I thought with a guarantee like that they must be good! I haven't hit anything with either as it's the highest point and no marks underneath just seems to have sheared clean of!
rallyfever Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 evening all! i have a Scoobyworld afterburner vortex backbox on my car and the tip or exit part at the end has come clean of the backbox! it says on the website they have a 25 year guarantee has anyone had to use this guarantee before? note it wasnt me who bought the exhaust it was on the car when i bought it Hi Fella, D5ORR - That rings a bell!!! Are you the man who bought my 2004 STi (S555 plate) off me??? Cheers Gary
john_mchutchison Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Fook me thats a weird one that, never heard of anything like that happening before. Iv had the same exhaust back box for over 5 year on 2 different cars and no problems so far, except for a little tarnish. Good luck geting it replaced John
badbaz Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 In my experience H & S are far from perfect. The guarantee is just because they are made from stainless - no one is likely to have their car for 25 years Can't you get it welded back on at one of the exhaust fabricators?
rallyfever Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 It is Gary aye! Sure is fella, how's the old Scoob going? Apart from the back box having a fault obviously!!! I am onto my 3rd one now, bought a Hawkeye 06 a round 3 months ago, love it - but still miss the 2.0 blobeye STi - I loved that car - as you probably noticed when you drove it away! Gary
d5orr Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Aye its running perfect mate still brings a smile after 2 years! Ha ha aye I know I felt bad driving away!
marko72 Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Yeow! That's unheard of.. These exahusts are made by Hayward and Scott who are arguably the best in the business! d5orr Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 well a little update on this! i rang scoobyworld to see what the situation was and they said that the 25 year warranty is non transferrable so as i didnt buy it there was nothing they could do! so then rang hayward and scott and they said if i send it down and pay the carriage they will weld it free of charge but the carriage is £20 each way. So do i send it to them or do i go elsewhere and get it welded? meant to add i dont have the piece thats broken of
scouk Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Meh! In that case I'd take baz's advice above and try find a local fabricator who can sort it for you. Probably cheaper. I had a local place to me patch up my Prodrive backbox when it burst a seam in an awkward place.. Only charged me £5
d5orr Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 yeh i was thinking the same myself! i dont suppose the bit thats broken of will effect anything if its not the original? must say though its hellish loud with it missing! haha
scouk Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Not really all the important stuff comes before the end can.. Might be worth asking one of the other owners of the backbox to measure how far it sticks out from the can so you can get a new one made up the same size..
d5orr Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 so theres the next question does anyone know who would weld it in the edinburgh lothians area?
The Meat Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I got Stainless creations in Falkirk to make me an exhaust. Im sure they could supply and weld on a new tail pipe. They had a selection of sizes and styles. Went for the 3inch outward rolled one mzself!
scouk Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) In my experience H & S are far from perfect. Ok, have to eat my words.. Got a de-resonated mid pipe from them last week.. Was getting fitted between a PPP backbox and PPP decat cat pipe, so should be a perfect fit. Bolt holes don't quite line up properly and discovered pretty quickly the exhaust was leaking at both ends Took it off, gave everythign a bloody good cleanup, plenty firegum on the ends and tightened the sucker up despite slightly angled bolts at the front , seems to be workign fine.. I know it sounds minor but did expect a perfect fit with standard parts.. Edited July 12, 2011 by ScoUK
badbaz Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Think they make it so only their stuff fits to their stuff if you follow?
spect Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I have their exhaust bits and they fitted fine, atarted with a back box, then added a centre later and finally a downpipe. No issues at all. Originallt bought a Miltek centre section but it was too short by two inches at front end!!!

Never had any probs fitting my H&S to the oem downpipe.........but then I never fitted it myself, the garage did so who knows if they had any issues or not. Hope it works out for you. I agree, I would expect a perfect fit if advertised for that particular car. Edited July 14, 2011 by marko72
