scoobysp Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Coming back from Edinburgh tonight I finally decided that the standard headlights are crap. I have put in ring xenon max (up to 100% brighter) to try and improve matters but I`m still not impressed. What I would like to know is has anybody managed to improve the lighting without going down the road of hid conversion ? What like are the piaa extreme white bulbs - supposed to be 55w but output a light equivalent to 100W. Maybe its just my eyes and old age but it seems like these lights are the worst I have ever had on a car.
terzo neil Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 try classic headlights, blobeyes are like daylight
stum450n Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I had the PIAA bulbs - massive improvement but I've just fitted an 8000k HID kit and the difference if phenomenal! The blobeye headlights seem perfectly suited for them - loads of light and virtually no glare for oncoming cars. Much less than I've seen on factory fitted Xenon headlights I've wired them into the factory loom so that should there be any issue it takes less than 10 mins on the roadside to switch back to halogens... keep an eye out in TG for more on that though
scooby222 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 tried all sorts of bulbs in the past and just not worth it. il be getting an hid kit as soon as theres a group buy on the go - although i have got the piaa driving light set on mine which is a big improvement you can never have too much light! look forward to your feature Stu

Find out tomorrow Group buy? You can get H1 kits sub £50 these days

stum450n Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 you forget im scottish - any discount is worth having Ah yes, very true - I did forget! Will see if I can sort anything out for you
mystery machine Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 You struggle with almost any type of headlamp at this time of year - can't go half a mile without them being coated in wet salt.
scoobysp Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) not sure I want to go down the aftermarket hid route for the following reasons not legal without washers and self levelling - can be fined up to £2500 by pc plod if they feel like it. Insurance company wont cover you if you have them fitted Are the piaa bulbs better than the ring ones I have ? Maybe will just have to tell my other half that buying a hawkeye is the only solution. scooby222 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 thats a fair enough point mate, its one of those personal calls like running a decat - technically you can get done but you'd be pretty unlucky for it to happen. and also that applies to the PIAA bulb, regardless of what current they draw if they put out more than 60w theyre illegal too id say forget about the piaa bulbs, i doubt theyre bright enough to justify the price tag. i reckon the options are either morette headlight conversion, piaa driving lamp kit or change the car. tbh the driving lamp kits tremendous but only on main beam, if your mainly bugged by dipped beam performance afraid your stuck with it hawkeye it is then
mystery machine Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Does your car have headlamp washers, scoobysp? They do the trick this time of year, so they do. Also if your reflectors are dulled you won't see as much light on the road.
scoobysp Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 What about fitting a second hand set of Jdm Blobeye hid headlights thats if they plug straight in to the uk sti's looked into this as well - the official line I got from the powers at be is still the same - they are illegal. I have read in a few places that moves are afoot to start clamping down on the aftermarket hids but not sure how true that actually is ? I always fancied a hawkeye so I think I better start saving now.
scooby222 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 i wonder how they get through the SVA when theyre imported? our lass's integra had hid's but no washers or self levelling do uk hawkeyes have hids then? they havent got washers have they?

Ultimate Shine Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 i fitted A hid conversion kit to my blobeye and have never looked back. Epecially when i got the kit for £27 delivered from china, 4 years ago.
jf_wrx_2004 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 HID lights all the way and sod pc plod lol
