About scoobysp

  1. What sort of price are we talking about if it does all go wrong ? Don`t thrash my car and give it a lot of mechanical sympathy with a good warm up and down when I do decide to have a bit fun. Any specific places for buying the jdm hawkeye`s - never had any experience in buying an import before.
  2. Thinking about buying a hawkeye scooby but was wondering after reading all the issues how common are the faults with head gaskets going etc. Are wrx`s better than the sti or are they pretty much the same when it comes to engine problems ? My blobeye has been superb on the reliability front with so far only a sensor playing up - cost me £54 to sort so again brilliant. Even thought about a hatch but ringland failures and the mention of chocolate pistons doesn`t fill me with much joy.
  3. Thanks for the replies - I had never heard of them either and was just wondering if they seem a reputable setup or not.
  4. No - scooby brothers must stick together when it comes to parking...
  5. Car parks and scoobies don`t mix - one of my pet hates is what I have called lonely car syndrome. Like everybody else I park miles away from every other car only to find someone has parked right next to me just because their car gets lonely when they leave it. I only had my scooby for 2 days before it got its first dent - thin metal doesn`t help much. The worst scenario is coming back to your car as the four kids and messages are getting loaded into the heap thats now 2" away from your cherished scooby
  6. Anybody had any dealings with Performance Ecosse in Linlithgow ? Doesn`t seem to be a very big company but the cars look in good condition from what I have read and saw on their website.
  7. looked into this as well - the official line I got from the powers at be is still the same - they are illegal. I have read in a few places that moves are afoot to start clamping down on the aftermarket hids but not sure how true that actually is ? I always fancied a hawkeye so I think I better start saving now.
  8. not sure I want to go down the aftermarket hid route for the following reasons not legal without washers and self levelling - can be fined up to £2500 by pc plod if they feel like it. Insurance company wont cover you if you have them fitted Are the piaa bulbs better than the ring ones I have ? Maybe will just have to tell my other half that buying a hawkeye is the only solution.
  9. Coming back from Edinburgh tonight I finally decided that the standard headlights are crap. I have put in ring xenon max (up to 100% brighter) to try and improve matters but I`m still not impressed. What I would like to know is has anybody managed to improve the lighting without going down the road of hid conversion ? What like are the piaa extreme white bulbs - supposed to be 55w but output a light equivalent to 100W. Maybe its just my eyes and old age but it seems like these lights are the worst I have ever had on a car.
  10. Nope wasn`t me but I know the person whose car it was - the car infront of him was doing 25mph so thats why he overtook it, scooby would have been going much faster than this by the time he passed Just relaying the story I heard at my work - when I see him in person I shall no doubt get the full story. Supposidly has been getting a bit of a ribbing over it on his facebook page.
  11. story is ... said scooby driver was driving behind another car which was doing 25mph, decided to overtake it and slid on black ice. Driver is ok but pride is severely dented I think.
  12. well it appears I have the same fault as you Gordon - going to check the harness between the ecm and the sensor plug just incase thats faulty. Have read about some people being able to clean off the deposits and using them again - just have to watch you don`t "poison" the sensor with the cleaning agent.
  13. Don`t know if anybody else has posted this site before http://www.basinger.us/Impreza/repairindex.htm if you read through the error code bits and then follow the test guide for it. Loads of great info on other things as well.
  14. spot on - located in a recess near the bottom of the panel. Cheers.
  15. No bother Gordon - you never know my fault might be the same as yours. Which brings me to my next question - where is the bit I plug the reader into ? Haven`t had the chance to look under the bonnet yet so any hints will be much appreciated
