scooby222 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 for fast road and occasional track use which is better - bigger calipers or bigger discs? trying to decide between 330 or 356mm discs when i upgrade, was thinking 330's would allow me to run 17' wheels over winter but it doesnt really come out much now so i could run 18's all year. but is there any real advantage to them over larger calipers with the larger swept area they give?
badbaz Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Performance Friction pads and front discs with a fluid update were more than enough for me Dave and 17s still fit;)
lumsden26 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 i did the same full set of ebc disks and mintex 1155 pads and a brake fluid change and they where spot on unless your running alot of extra power ofcourse then bigger is better.also braided hoses make a difference
terzo neil Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 running k psort 8 pots 330mm with sti wheels, run ebc yellow pads, new version, much better than the k sport sport pads which are fooking terrible
scooby222 Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 should have said i already have godspeed 2 piece discs and ferodo 2500 pads with braided hoses and 5.1 fluid the discs and pads are the biggest dissapointment ive fitted to the car, done 1500 miles and theyre gubbed - any heat in the discs even a modest stop and they judder like hell and fade to nothing, discs are blued round the edges and ruining my enjoyment of the car having wasted 500 quid on them and from previous experience uprating discs they just dont cut it for me (and yes i know im hard on them, cracked every set of standard discs on 2 classics i had) so bigger, better calipers are the way forward Neil, not ignoring you mate but my voice is gubbed with the cold - il give you a bell or catch you at knockers tomorrow if your heading up
terzo neil Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 dave you know how to text don't you not going to knockers as got something very important to do

scooby222 Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 dont judge everyone by your own standards Graeme
terzo neil Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Watching porn then? says the man who uses palm and her 5 friends family is more important
euan_r Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 dave, as you know ive had the juddering from ds2500 pads before as well. comming from an engineering background i can understand the reasoning behind the bigger disc side. bigger discs means calipers can apply more force as they are offset more. bigger discs also means there is more metal so it will take more repetative braking to build up same amount of heat. on the other hand there is tyre traction to consider. having had a certain brake specialists kit before (calipers, two piece discs etc) i wouldnt use again, galvonic corrosion, bolts going walkies between rotor and bell etc.
