thebigfelly Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 as those of you who attended the falkirk meet noticed, there was the residue of the W.A.C.K badge that some geezer who had the car before had stuck to the boot lid, after a load of help from the members and especialy boab even wi the broken fingers and alot of elbow grease we managed to get rid of the W + C leaving just the A + K and as little bit of the C, been trying like a mofo to get rid of the rest of the residue off with various products including clay bar as people said at the meet, but it is a stuborn little f##ker. heres what ive tried and the results which is much diference. they took a little bit more of the A away and a little more of the K but no more is coming off, any more sudgestions folks? other than tackling with a safety blade..?
CJE Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 In my youth, I spent some time doing car valeting and we seemed to used celulose thinners to remove anything from anything. Not sure just how dodgy that is nowadays but if you think it will disolve I'd try tar remover first and then, failing that, celulose thinners. I found the Autoglym tar remover to be particularly good. If its a hard glue compound then not sure. CJE
little vodka goblin Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Sounds daft but have you tried soaking them in WD40?
thebigfelly Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) aye thats what me and boab were using , but didnt get any further on the A its like the persons used glue/super glue id say , also used the gf's nail varnish remover..... and tried more tar remover aswel . sti pretender Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Have you tried heating it with a hairdryer to see if it softens?
Baz man Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Heat it up mate. Hairdryer or some hot water before using tcut or some of the other ones you have.
C_WRX Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Two other methods I'd be trying are heating it up (hairdryer should suffice) or a rediculously good product called Autosmart tardis (which I use mainly as a tar remover but may be good on this also). Going down the rediculous route wet sand and machine polish it .
geosub Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 A rag with some petrol on it should take it off
scouk Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Two other methods I'd be trying are heating it up (hairdryer should suffice) or a rediculously good product called Autosmart tardis (which I use mainly as a tar remover but may be good on this also). That autosmart tardis stuff is basically white spirit in a fancy container ..I've used it in the past and works well Just remember to give the surface a good wash afterwards! Dont want that stuff near the paint any more than it needs to be! Other daft suggestion if your at a wits end is to use a paint scraper to gently run over hte surface (ideally after heating with hairdryer) and try and slicethe majority of it off.. This methid works quite well on glass which is much harder and smoother.. Note using this method would make it VERY easy to damage the paint!! It's merely a suestion, I wont be held responsible for any damage incurred
ANDYJDMSTI Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Autoglym bug and tar remover is what i have used in the past. Both the cream and wet wipe type.

Midnight21 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 When I took the wind deflectors of my wagon...I tried lots of things (even fruit gums lol) But the hairdryer and B&Qs chewing gum remover worked for me .... took hours though and arms like popeye after
Bugeye29 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 hairdyer or will sound daft but take the plastic end off a wallpaper stripper so your just left with the plastic pipe and use it as a steam cleaner, tho a took my subaru badge off no probs with a hairdyer, tryed everthing like you and at the last min used a hairdyer and it came off in seconds
subarucraig Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 i'm a car valeter if it was mine i'd use tardis thinners then machine polish if that don't work buy new wack badge
scooby222 Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 autosmart tardis is the stuff, i used it to remove sticker residue on a motorway maintenance van we had,be careful with it and polish afterwards but itl do the trick mate
dan_jess Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Im working on a civic that ive bought to sell on. It had door protectors all the way along the side, three strips of rubber sticky sikaflex all along the door and rear quarter. I had been at it with a hairdryer, heating it up and peeling off. I knew it was going to take hours to do. A friend who is a panel beater told me to get a toffee wheel to take it off. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Automotive-Toffee-Whizzy-Stripe-Removal-Wheel-/350329202253?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item51913f664d Ive been at it ten minutes and nearly got all of one side of the car done, its a brilliant tool. Go down to your local bodyshop and they will have that off your car in seconds. Very happy. This will take half an hour and after all the hard work, ive earned the right to go for a pint
dan_jess Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Here is what i was heating and picking off This is the side ive been doing and ten mins with the wheel
dan_jess Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Thats one side done. Can you tell im happy about this haha
