andyf Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 (edited) Just wondering what the market is like for selling hawkeye STI's at the moment. Basically bought my car earlier in the year but have come to the realisation that I may need to sell as child #3 is on the way and I'm not really getting to enjoy the ar as much as I would like just now so who knows when I'll get any time once the new arrival is here. It took me ages to track down the right car and I have enjoyed every minute I've had it but the sensible head is on and I'm seriously thinking of selling it and using the money to get a bigger family mobile. I've had it on pistonheads for a few days now and no enquiries, guess not having pics up yet isnt helping. Anyway, what sort of money are they changing hands for privately. Don't really want to trade it in as it has a few nice mods (GGR re-map, turinis etc) which I dont think most garages appreciate. Mabyee I should wait until we have a good dumping of snow and try to sell it then . Edited August 3, 2010 by andyf
mystery machine Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 If your car isn't wildly modified then Autotrader online's as good a place as any to get ball park idea of your car's value. Do a search for cars with a similar spec to yours and see what comes up. Try to limit to 100 mile radius because they do get cheaper as you venture further south.
terzo neil Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 ask the welsho been trying to sell his since end of april
mystery machine Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 ask the welshobeen trying to sell his since end of april Ah but - at the risk of sounding like an STI snob - his is a WRX... Albeit a WRX that's half-way to being an STI (and beyond in bhp/lbs-ft!)
terzo neil Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 if that aint selling, good spec might i add, he's had no interest in it so god knows how longthe sti will take to sell
mystery machine Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 (edited) Neil, I'd suggest that there isn't as big a demand for heavily-modified WRXes as there is for standard STIs/WRXes. Certainly took me a bit of travelling to find my standard Hawk STI just over a year ago, and I don't accept that the *rse has fallen out of that market in the space of a fairly uneventful year John's modded WRX - with all due respect - just ain't everyone's cup of tea, but the right buyer will come along eventually. Still think he needs to ditch the orange wheels first, though Edited August 3, 2010 by Mystery Machine
terzo neil Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 as you put it that way, last jan in the height of the recession i managed to pick up thro autotrader a my03 blob wrx with prodrive ppp and suspension pack, and sti 8 wheels and re070's with it on first owner and fssh for 4200 pounds
mystery machine Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 That was indeed a good time to pick up a motor. ...but between now and last June I'm struggling to see why the demand for Hawkeye STIs would've plummeted... Anyway, I guess the test is to stick it up for sale in Autotrader at a price you think is both reasonable and worth your while selling for. If the phone rings, great - if not, then drop the price or keep it
terzo neil Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 ...but between now and last June I'm struggling to see why the demand for Hawkeye STIs would've plummeted... could it be the 440 pound a year road tax which could put alot of people off when buying a performance car now
mystery machine Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 could it be the 440 pound a year road tax which could put alot of people off when buying a performance car now I'm sure you're right in that it does put people off, but then it's nothing particularly new - it was £400+ to tax my '06 WRX when I bought it two years ago.
andyf Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 could it be the 440 pound a year road tax which could put alot of people off when buying a performance car now Not really sure if the road tax would have a real difference, if you can aford to buy a car like this, insure it and put petrol in it then the road tax probably isnt the first thing on someones mind. TBH, I've not really put much effort into selling yet, will get some pics taken of the car and get it on autotrader although nights are getting darker and winter will be here in ~4 months so might change my mind. If it's like last year then 4 x 4 will come in handy, civic type r and snow dont really go hence the scooby. Always had 4wd in the past, Cossie, Golf R32 and also had a RB5 WR sport which made me go back to an Impreza after a couple of run arounds and a civic r. I'm tempted to go back to a classic once I sell the hawkeye, really like the RB5 but it was nice, wr sport pack and Alcon brakes.
tomwrx08 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 i think it will sell no probs as long as its only slightly modded as a heavily modded car aint to everones taste but a lighlty modded one is easier to put ure own stamp on it,

Someone, somewhere got a cracker of a car. Good luck OP with the sell though!
sparky_sj04 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Well I sold mine straight away for good money in April this year. ONLY place I advertised it was on here and had many e-mails about it. I came back from sea on a Thursday, guy viewed it Friday and took it away Saturday. If he hadn't taken it someone else would've been along. It was relatively lightly but properly modified. It's all about presenting the car in the best condition and the best advert possible. I haven't seen your advert Andy so can't comment, but when I am scanning the classifieds and see things like shocking spelling, scant or wrong details, fixed price "NO OFFERS" - that kind of thing just puts me off and I keep looking. There are plenty people looking for the 'right' car.

I hate reading adverts with text spelling, puts me off a car straight away if the owner cant be bothered to take the time to write properly.

There are plenty people looking for the 'right' car. It was the full write up, good pics, full and thoughtful emails that made me go for it Although, I didn't even know about SIDC. I Googled some random thing about comparing 2 STIs and Sparky's for sale thread was the first link in Google When I sold my Leon, I had it on every forum and free car add place under the sun. It sold the day after I picked up the scoob. Don't just list in 1 place. There is loads of forums where you can put it on, but make sure you bookmark all the places listed so you can go back and edit any and check for questions. Good luck with the sale
StewartyBoy Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I would love a Hawkeye, WRX or STi they really are good looking cars and I am absoultely BURSTING at the seems for one, but I'm one of those people who refuses to hand over the government £400. I can more than afford fuel, insurance yadda yadda but its principle to be honest. After having a look in various garages for the past year, most garage owners complain that they hate having them traded in as they can never get shot of them and that includes STi's. Anyone who know 1st choice on Drumoyne Road, Ibrox will have noticed that they no longer stock anywhere near as many Scoobs as they used too. Scott Baillie cars is the same. I know these are only 2 cars out of a ridiculiously huge network, but these really have fallen into the "specialist" category now. Its just a real shame that buyers dont realise the hard work and money that people like John have poured into the cars, they just see an Impreza and reckon its had the backside ragged out of it.

So 10 tanks of fuel @ £60 a tank and your not far off £400. If you don't want to hand over £400 to the government you better start walking everywhere , still costs you tax for shoes and socks though. Rab89 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 My Hawk STI is £245 for 12months. http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?de...amp;deriv=32937
mystery machine Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Mine's £435 and I still bought it F**k 'car tax' and f**k the government - they don't represent me
hi_jac Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Just read this thread and thought Lisa was up the duff... hic
StewartyBoy Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 there are some early hawkeyes that beat the 400 quid a yr tax . Yeah completely right, but I'm not looking at buying an older car but a newer plate and unfortunately it falls out of the criteria. Like I said, bloody lovely cars but I'd rather spend the £400 on the car and not putting Chantelle and baby Chelsea up in a lovely Riverside flat while I'm replacing tyres due to the state of the road, no longer being replenished by what I pay.

If you think that 'car tax' is funding lavish lifestyles for single mothers then you really have been reading too much Daily Mail... No, you see, it is spent on the roads - e.g.: - Traffic calming islands. - Speed humps. - Bus and cycle lanes. - Endless other schemes that don't represent the interest of the people paying for them...
