What Bar Boost

Recommended Posts

Hi i would just like to know what bar of boost a sti bottom end will take I've heard about 1.7 to 1.8 is pretty safe for the sti block but I could be misinformed

Depends on year of block as newer ones tend to be stronger.

Jap or Uk differ too, jap spec's usually being stronger.

Don't think the Sti v5/v6 or P1 block would handle 1.7/1.8 for very long

Your mapper has all the answers and he is best person to keep you right on the safe levels of boost

Ran my standard v5 block at 1.75 bar on a 20g with no issues.

Not sure I agree with the fact the newer blocks are stronger, some of the boys with closed deck blocks may argue with that (mine was manufactured in 1992).

What i have read and seen its the closed deck block 2.0 or 2.212t that gets used for high bhp outputs which you would know already Playsatan2

It would be worth finding what power your clutch and gear box can handle as well.

The clutch isn't any issue it has just been upgraded along with the fly wheel it's a 53 wrx recently fitted with a newly rebuit sti bottom end, the max bhp on a vf35 I'm informed is about 330 and about the same torque so I don't think the gear box is an issue either but again I could be wrong

The TY754VN4AA gearbox, which yours should be, should cope with that power and torque. I used one for a full season in the RA with around 320/320 figures and that was not being at all sympathetic with it and then half a season at around 400/400 and its still fine.
