Megy Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hi all, Would just like to say hi, I have bought my first Impreza and thought I would introduce myself. I live in Edinburgh and work in Aberdeen during the week, working at the airport and staying just outside Balmedie, commuting monday morning/friday evening. The car is a black 56 plate WRX and is pretty much standard (at the mo). I am looking to get the wheels painted/powder coated anthracite in the next few weeks and change the stereo but was wondering what else people would suggest I do to it. I am not wanting to spend mega bucks on tweaking another 1.3 BHP, but anything reasoanble and worthwhile may be considered. One thing I would like to do is to get an STi or Prodrive rear spoiler, but looking on eBay and doing google searches there appear to be a multitude of spoilers available, so are there any that people would especially recommend over others, anyone got experience of buying them? I am (a self confessed) numpty when it comes to car mechanics and so some form of detailed suggestion may be worthwhile, just so I understand what you are saying. If there is anyone else in or around the Edinburgh or Aberdeen area, feel free to say hi, maybe we drive past each other. I will be taking some photos soon and when I do I will make sure to put them up. Ian Megy is online now Report Post Edit/Delete Message
bobbyc Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hi mate & welcome along to the club, things are a wee bit quiet over the winter but keep a look out in the events section for meets etc
paul555sti Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hello and welcome to the club, i think i replied to your post over on pistonheads.
Richie Cross Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hello and welcome When you say the car is 'pretty much' standard....how much is that? The usual starting points would be the exhaust system, if you haven't got PPP? You have (I believe!) 3 cats on the car which don't help with the breathing. You can go down the full decat route or go for a sportscat which will help. Others will say to upgrade your brakes or handling side of things before going for more power. Lots of nice Whiteline goodies to be had As for the spoilers, each to their own. Find one you like then use the search facility and see if there are good or bad things about them.
oobster Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hi there - for spoilers have a look at: http://www.drmotorsport.co.uk/
Phil MC Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hello and welcome to the site Ian. Hope you enjoy your stay here, and remember to cut up your credit cards before the modding gets out of hand!!!
C_WRX Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Welcome. Get involved, ask your questions, and answer some too. Get some pics on as well. Probably agree with Ritchie, go with the exhaust flow. Not same model but I have 2004 WRX and have done the full exhaust thing (plus couple of little other things) then had a remap and am sitting at about 280. You don't have to have the whole thing changed at once, and remapped but only to a point, if the budget doesn't fit just now and can be done in stages to let a modest little number of ponies free and let it rev a wee bit free'er. Panel filter is low cost one?? Handling is a good place to go too, ARB/DL's/ALK/....still with me !!? Don't ingore the brakes but at this power you should be okay. If/when the time comes (wear and tear) to change then consider as a minimum upgrading the pads. You may just be realising that all this possible change ain't cheap !!
