green_goblin Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Just browsing and came across this exhaust.........Couldnt believe the price for a start dont see how that could do anything good for your car!! Clicky And also the price of this also Clicky Thats got to be wrong!!
mystery machine Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Fujitsubo need to have a word with their English translator - "viable"? They meant "variable", surely?
lumsden26 Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 just looks like another thing to go wrong to me
dipsy Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I have seen that person's name ie the seller in a magazine years ago with a silver subaru wagon
StewartyBoy Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Active exhaust system. I'm pretty sure Aston Martin use these and don't quote me but also Ferrari!? Unsure what it would be like on a turbocharged car though. Price sounds about right for the system.
davidexige Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Active exhaust system. I'm pretty sure Aston Martin use these and don't quote me but also Ferrari!? My F360 had something similar to this, the only reason it's fitted though is to get round drive by noise regulations.
lewisscoob Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I'm pretty sure the Audi RS4's have something along that lines too.
johnnyr6 Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 i s'pose its a bit like an automatic bung. Doesn't look too efficient though. Johnny
StewartyBoy Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 i s'pose its a bit like an automatic bung. Doesn't look too efficient though.Johnny I think it is mate. RS4's use a similar exhaust system but it isn't automatic. On the steering whel there is an "S" that sticks it into "**** off a shovel" mode. This changes the map, opens the gate in the exhaust and the seat squeezes you a bit.
Old Bugger :P Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 All this "unit" does is retain back pressure in the exhaust system overall ( due to it being in the backbox, effectively ) and would ,possibly, produce higher gas temperatures ,by return, to the manifold ( hence Turbo ) ........BUT more than probably just causes internal detonation issues within the pipe (superheated gases meeting heated gases )... none of this seems like something i would like to shell that kinda money out for ... also with modern mapping and tuning ... its kinda redundant technology .... then again i could b wrong ... it has been known to happen Bet it would make the manifold glow a pretty colour though!!!!!
StewartyBoy Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Yeah I reckon the cars these are fitted to seem to be N/A
marino_morelli Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Back pressure when off boost is desirable to help build boost, then when on boost its designed to open. It comes with an automatic or manual controller so that you can programme it to oopen at a set boost with a manual overide. You'd be a bit of an idiot to drive around at 1.5bar high boost with the valve shut, that's not what its desinged for! You can however vary the opening to reduce the noise. It could be combined with an Ecutek variable map so that at low boost its not particularly loud and doesn't need to be so free flowing, then on high boost it opens up to 113db. At part throttle you can introduce a level of back pressure for quick response and spool which disappears the minute you get proper boost. It's the nuts and can be used effectively if used properly. I think its the ultimate Impreza system, which is why I bought it for my own car, yuo can have the best of all worlds! Motorway cruising without a headache, reduce the volume slightly for trackday limits, have it screaming when you're in the mood. The bypass is 50mm and the centre straight through with the valve is 70mm. So even with the valve only open 40%, you're still getting the same bore as a standard 3" exhaust. So with it fully open its that much less restrictive! The headers are a work of art also and that is an awesome price, these were £1300 new and the Viable £2k back in 2003!!
RA Dunk Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I dont have the Variable Exhaust from Fujitsubo but I do have a Fujitsubo Exhaust, bought it second hand on here five years ago and had it fitted to both my Imprezas, cant fault the build quality of them anyway.
