My girlfriend also drives my car and all the time shes telling me of wee idiots pulling stupid moves trying to race her and reving there engines at lights etc...dont know if its cos shes a girl or what but she seems to get it more than me!!

a wee corsa raced past me a couple of weeks ago on the 40 between dunfermline and rosyth, luckily I didn't entertain him cos 30m past me he screetched to 40mph in a cloud of smoke having spotted a mobile police camera!

It worrys me that I might get a ticket for racing with the corsa, I may have been doing up to 47! (corsa doing at least 60 past me). I bet if I were driving a porsche, I'd have no such worry.

Chris.

were none of you ever the nieve 1 litre peter driver ? :D

maybe they don't all want to race but just hear the beauty of a scooby giving a wee roar past them. ok their is time and a place but they will learn that in time and hopefully wthout hurting anybody.

I totally agree, everyone has started of in something slower, and while there are the same idiots who will stay with a corsa and bodykit into their late 30s (no offense anyone, just in case!! ) there are the guys who get a thrill out of seeing a proper fast car go for it..... I personally have had a go at various cars, m5 v10s, rs6's etc in my impreza just to see and hear them in action, and i couldnt care what they thought, i got my thrill lol :D But yeah, time and a place for it

yeah i get it too.

i rarely bother to make eye contact with them now

although i can pretty much guarantee the "point and look" along with them saying "its a bird driving!" when i 'am' in the right mood and look over at them :D

Ha, we were met with a wee skyskrapin hat wearing 1 litre corsa driving guy at the slip from the erskine bridge yesterday. Considering we were doing the speed limit, he came right up our ar*e and Gerard couldn't help but slow right down (there was no-one else on the motorway) in the fast lane to make the wee guy would have to change gears :P , then he slowly (for the scoob) pulled away and left him for dust when he wasn't even trying. Went to pull off at the airport and he was trying to catch up, flashing his lights etc, not sure if it was because he was angry or happy to hear the burble :lol: i hope it was the first, love to wind folk up  that'll teach him :D

And, for the record, it would appear I get more eejits trying to race me (Ms tong) than the man of the house does. Maybe it's just I give them a chance every now and then whereas he is always going at the speed of light!! :D:P

Yeah, my wife goes on quite often about wee ejits trying to race her whenever she took my car ! I only occasionally get it and rarely entertain it nowadays - well maybe ! Really really don't get it when they do it in a 30 !!!

I dont race with any corsas/novas after being smoked when i had my evo a few years back by a corsa :D

That wasnt funny!! Found out later that it had a 2.0 turbo engine in it. It looked standard on the outside so gotta give the guy some credit!!

But i totally agree, there is a time and place for racing and it aint on the roads!!

When i owned my previous scoob which had a flamer kit, i was heading through Carnoustie when a wee nova came up bumper to bump with me......so i took the easy option, flicked the switch and give it a big rev.......he backed off when the flames near touched his bonnet :D:lol:

I dont drive my impreza on the road very often. Now it has all the time attack stickers, it seems to attract even more attention. I would never bother racing anyone off the lights. However......... A couple of years ago.A boy racer mobile pulled up beside me. He was looking over at me obviously looking for a race. So i looked over and gave him a look and a nod. He was obviously not the sharpest tool in the box or never bothered to look in his mirrors as there was a traffic car behind him, not an unmarked but a great big shiney white stickered up volvo. The lights changed and he took off. So did the police car. They were both pissing themselves laughing as the took off after him.

I've only ever had one person alongside at the lights giving it the look. M3 driver (older shape). Lots of reving and nudging the car forwards waiting for the lights to change. I switched on the lag and launch and held it on the limit for a bit before the lights changed. He laughed and waved me on

My mums got a wagon and she doesn't get any bother, but the couple of times she has been driving mine she has had hassle. Mainly people wanting to look I think. She is 65 ;)

Now THERE'S an idea... I'm getting tailgated about the town all the time... just for driving at the speed limit... does my head in...

My wife say she gets the nutters on the road quite regularly, and not always from the youths either!

She reckons it's the STi spoiler that attracts them, and would be more than happy for me to change it to a WRX boot-level one  ?

its simple let them race off in the 1.0 heap. most of us here have probably done it ourselfs when yous were young an stupid.

all there doing is ruining a car thats probably only fit for the bin anyway. plus they get a kick oot of the wee blast regardless off who wins.

dont race etc and it pisses them off even more. and your cars not getting shafted.

BE A GOOD EXAMPLE. after all we are proably older than them.

As said above, when I started driving, it was a 900cc 1977 Polo, yellow and rusty, cringe. Anyways, I would have took on anything, especially performance cars to both see and hear them go, so leave the boy racers alone, give them a wee blast, make their day and wave them on, we all started somewhere.

I reckon your wife may have a point, Phil...

I've had two Hawkeyes - a standard WRX and the current standard STI. I was hardly ever tailgated in the WRX - I wondered perhaps whether the Scooby rep was putting people off being drawn into a losing battle. However, the STI has a strange polarising effect on other drivers. Some see it approaching on the outside lane of the motorway and almost seem to make a dash for the left lane - even if you aren't travelling particularly quickly, or you didn't need them to pull over (and I don't drive up the back of folk or no nasties like that).

However, on the flipside, all manner of ding-dongs seem to want to stick to the back of the STI through 30mph zones. I guess it must carry some weight down the boozer, "aye - blew oot a Impreza STI the day - couldnae pull away fae me for sh|te!" - neglecting to mention that this white-knuckle limit-of-grip showdown never saw him exceed 15mph on the bends or 35mph on the straights...

Given that the most obvious difference between the two Scoobs I've owned is the style of spoiler, I'm fairly convinced that's a large part of the problem. Yes, a Scoob can indeed be a fanny magnet, but seldom in the way you might want it to be... ;)

These days, if someone persists in tailgating me (and this only really works in dry weather), they shall be treated to several gallon of screenwash from the headlamp washers until the hint is taken. Works particularly well on van drivers with open windows, and even better on convertibles :D
