20kendo
Looking for a daily driver for the winter, been offered a mk4 golf 1.4e which only has 1 key! Anyone know if these cars should have a red master key ? Or can the existing key be copied ok ? Bit o luck somebody on here has owned an old vee-dub in the past. Link to comment
Joe G
My bro has a VR6 and im pretty sure he only got one key with his. Its pretty common to only get one key with older cars. You should be able to get a key cut no probs as long as it isn't a coded key. Link to comment
flat4phil
Should be a 'flip key' one with the two or three button body, and the key blade that pops out. These are all transponder type keys too, so you'll need to get a similar key fob off ebay, get the 'blade' cut to match, and go to the stealer to have it reprogrammed. Link to comment
StrikE
No red master key with VW s cars always come [new] with 2 key fobs, i would go to a dealer & get a new key fob, if the other key is not with the sale then no problem as you can remove the access yourself using your other key, i am nearly sure yopu can program the keys to accept the car details yourself!! I could with both the MK4 & MK5 golfs we have owned. Del *Edit* my VW were 2002 [new] onwards Edited October 15, 2009 by StrikE Link to comment
wulsey
I have a 2000 Mk4 VW golf tdi which only came with one key, not the flip key as i think they are only on the newer models Link to comment
20kendo
Thanks for the replies folks , car will be the bum basic model so not expecting any remote door locking or such , having 1 key will enable a stealer to copy it then ? anybody disagree ? Link to comment
colin_ross
Try timpsons. They can cut coded keys right there and then for many cars for a much better price than the stealers. Link to comment
dan_jess
If your desperate for the other key, go to the dealer and they will be able to give you the key needed for your car (not expensive). It will need coded in but the dealers charge far too much for that. Ive got a couple of numbers for guys that come to your door and do it much cheaper and doesnt take long. Did this with my Lupo not so long ago, car was stolen recovered, so i had no keys with the car. Link to comment
