rallyfever Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) Hi Fella, Just sounded like a grinding noise, maybe brakes, could have been suspension rubbing, possibility of a duff rear diff. No idea really - just wasn't right. Maybe I was wrong and it should sould like that - but after 10 years of driving Scoobs I have never heard two like that before. Not sure for what I am willing to pay for a classic, that what I want exists - may need to look at something else. Was so looking forward to driving a boxer again. Cheers Gary Edited October 7, 2009 by rallyfever
rallyfever Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 Jesus, what a waste of a day, I also think the garage is out of line. What was the noise? I have loads of receipts over the years for rear wheel bearings so it may have been one of them. Type R's have the larger size 70mm wheel bearings rather than the normal 65mm. Only other thing at the back is the diff Keep looking mate, one will pop up, don't give up Rich Hi Rich, I thought the diff to start with, but with that it would probably have made more noise when turning, this was on the straights. Pain in the ass whatever it was. I thought to myself if I bought either car it would always be playing on my mind that something was wrong. Think I have already given up bud, maybe need to look at another marque slighly newer and less fun for now me thinks!!! Cheers Gary

StrikE Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 That is just the pits m8, nothing worse than traveling that distance only to be let down, He can't keep your deposit though, that is theft!! Hats off to you for walking away from the deal though as a lot of people wouldnt
tomwrx08 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 thats shocking fae that garage mate, fight it all the way, dont let them get away with it, found this on sn slighty over budget but seems a cracker tam http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-cars...-v-limited.html
gordi82 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Really bad news pal. But the good news is as you had never been down to see the car and had i take it paid your deposit over the phone you would never have signed a contract. So therefor they can't legaly keep your deposit. Its the law. as for your train fare and munchies no chance of a refund on that. Good luck Gordon @ john weirs
scoobyseller555 Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Unless of course they can say that they have incurred costs in the preparation of the vehicle for your collection,so could in fact chase you for money, like you say i would put it down to experience and forget it and move on. So when he does eventually sell the car there will be no costs to pay out. I have looked at the OFT website and it looks as if the rules are on my side. Cheers Gary
scoobyseller555 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Gary Just my thoughts on the matter, the main problem you have is that you obviously had a verbal agreement as apposed to a written signed contract of sale(which would specify your, and there, conditions of sale,as from the sounds of things you havn't signed this(order form)it is a very vauge area, you could argue that the goods were not as described, they could argue that this is a charactiristic of the car and you have backed out of the sale for other reasons. Your correct in the fact that a deposit should and generally would be refunded but it doesn't sound like they are going to give in easily, also try speaking to the SMTA for advise on the matter. Good Luck Gav

PAUL-KILLIE Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Hi Been reading your thread and have been through exactly the same trying to find a car. Eventually decided to hand pick a car from Japan. Had it under a blanket in the garage for too long now, was intending doing the concourse thing but never got round to it... Ive been considering selling my car for the right offer, heres the details, drop me a pm if you need more info or pictures. 97 V3 STI 4 door White GENUINE 31000kms, never converted to mph. (19000 miles) Spare wheel etc never touched. No car park dings at all No underseal(underfloor polished white) No corrosion at all I have fitted a magnex 3 inch round exhaust and a decat. New Speedline ST2s in gold with new pirelli P Zero Corsas All parts to return to standard available. Standard wheels available with original matching tyres. Completely immaculate except from literally 3 or 4 stone chips. It is MOT'd and taxed Some Japanese history and all import docs. It is never and has never been driven in the rain to my knowledge. Imported and registered by myself Jan 09 Took me months to find and I think its a waste that I never use it, time someone else got the benefit of it!
Wee Jock Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Heres another one for sale...........think the bloke lives in Scotland http://www.carldavey.co.uk/article.php?id=5
rallyfever Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) Hi All, A huge thanks to everyone who tried to find me a car, after 3 hard months I came to the conclusion on Tuesday night that what i was looking for did not exist, with that I booked 3 appointments today to see 3 private cars. This is what I came back with, not a Scoob - but a wee bit different!!! Great looks Great MPG Great Insurance Great Tax Decent Performace BMW 330SE with a few choice goodies Still no Scoob - but just maybe need to wait until the next change for that treat. Thanks again Gary Edited October 8, 2009 by rallyfever
seafar99 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 (edited) I very nearly went for one of these recently, that looks particularly clean and an ac schnitzer. I do like the E46 bm's But when i started looking about on the roads, they seemed to be everywhere! Nice car. Edited October 8, 2009 by seafar99

Nice car. I used to drive an 04 330cd M-Sport and loved it, it was the longest i had ever kept a car and could not fualt it - so if the Scoob was off the list, it was the obvious replacement. Cheers Gary
cruz104 Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Now thats a nice looking motor Gary, so sad it is not a scooby. Will look out for you on the A68
rallyfever Posted October 8, 2009 Author Posted October 8, 2009 Now thats a nice looking motor Gary, so sad it is not a scooby. Will look out for you on the A68 Hi John, Cheers fella, was gutted not to get a Scoob, but after being let down twice on Tuesday I was at the end of my tether, and to be fair I needed a car quickly. I think I have the done alright for the money, it had a total respray in July, a new engine at 75,000 miles, and has a full BMW service history. The guy I bought it from was gutted to see it go as he seemed to be as daft on his BMW as we are on our flat fours. Jen seems to have claimed the keys to it and I think I'm banished to the Discovery - could be worse I suppose!!! She even bought a private plate for it today - so 80's I told her!!!! Look out for the G4 JBO in your mirrors soon Catch ya fella. Gary
green_goblin Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Sorry to hear about all your trouble mate, nice buy though....looks like its been kept really well!!! Jase
