Wayne Longhurst Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Hi All, Im driving up to Scotland (Nairn) from Essex at the end of the month for a week's break and was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas of the best roads / local favorite places to take the Scoobs. Many Thanks Wayne
euan_r Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 nairn to grantown, any/all roads through dufftown, mulben to craigellachie, over the lecht. pretty much any road as long as you keep away from red routes and tourists.
oobster Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Where are you staying when you are up in Nairn?
Wayne Longhurst Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Thanks Euan, Much appreciated!! Was going to try and head towards fort william as well, heard thats a nice drive. Im heading up at the end of the month not sure on the exact location as havn't got the details to hand, cant wait though!!
seafar99 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 (edited) well worth having a stop in 'glencoe' on the way to fort william .Quite atmospheric in any weather. Edited August 14, 2009 by seafar99
Wayne Longhurst Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Nice one just had a looked it up on the net, looks stunning may end up doing more walking than driving
scooby222 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 if youve the time to do it take the a82 north from glasgow along loch lomond to crianlarich then north through glencoe to fort william, carry on north for inverness on the a82, turn off at fort augustus and take the road along the south side of loch ness(quieter, twistier roads and better views of the loch) into inverness then head for culloden battlefield and follow that road right through to nairn. once your there the roads that euan suggested are all good for runs out and about
micra_wrc Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) what kind of fuel you using? may need to buy a couple bottles of octane booster, there's no V Power past Inverness. edit forgot theres a Shell in Alford Edited August 15, 2009 by micra_wrc
Gee Wr1 Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 There's vpower in Nairn. Have a look a Squiggles thread about camping/roads in the scottish of of topic section for road trip ideas in the north.
Wayne Longhurst Posted August 17, 2009 Author Posted August 17, 2009 Thanks Guys you've been a great help, ive stayed up in Cove near ullapool, wouldn't mind having a drive up that way, I know that there are a lot of single rack roads round that way am I going to be any where near that way? Would it be worth it? I normally try to use Tesco 99 octane, but if I cant get any of that then the next best thing really would be Shell, very handy knowing there is a Shell close to hand though. Evan better if there is a Tesco close by for the 99!! Nice one mate will take a look at Squiggles thread!! Many Thanks

Evan better if there is a Tesco close by for the 99!! For fuel in the Nairn (and closer proximity) area:Shell V-Power available at Nairn, Inverness, Elgin and Keith. Tesco 99 is only available at Keith. Apart from the above you'll need to travel a bit for these fuels or as suggested carry octane booster. Not sure if the Moray or Highland RO's have any local meets planned but keep eye on the Events section for the time you're in the area - Dave/Al over to you on that one Edited August 18, 2009 by Scooby Doom
