Guest sti3_lewak Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) Ok well as some of you know i have been in afghan for a while know but did pop over for a meet and eat day with Edd (SP hope your legs better know Since i was home for a while i decided to spend some of my hard earned cash on the scooby. Before i touched her her spec was STI3 Black Saloon 1997 17" Chrome alloys HKS Exhaust system cat back HKS Coil Overs Know after a year her spec is 18" Alloys HKS Exhaust system cat back Tein Coilovers Apexi Airfilter BOV New bonnet Simtek Ecu Tuned with twin maps. Running 1.5bar on Vpower at 350bhp, and 1.0bar on 95 unleaded at 300bhp. Walbrum Fuel pump HKS HT Leads 550cc injectors (still need fitting) vf34 turbo (still needs fitting) Autobaurn FMIC (still needs fitting) Anyone have any idea wat it would run once fitted and tuned??.... have been told i could be knocking at the 400 mark. Just need to order the brakes then when i come home fitt it all and get it remapped again Edited June 27, 2009 by sti3_lewak
rae_sti Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) kin hell you dont mess about would have thought around the 400 mark ,but what i know is dangerous same school of modification as ed Edited June 27, 2009 by Rae_sti
jd Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 the limiting factor is the vf34 turbo, usually run about 350bhp.
scooby-22 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 You want to get a manly VF35 like me (thanks to JD ) but then i dont think that would reach 400. Im sure i read the VF35 is good for 380, im sure i will be corrected if not.
jd Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 (edited) the vf34 and vf35 are similar in respect of available power from them, both are approx 350bhp. the vf34 is roller bearing. Edited June 28, 2009 by JD
Big 'D' Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Hi fella I have a VF35 setup mapped @ 1.35 BAR with a frontmount setup and 440cc injectors, I am currently running at 350bhp so there should still be scope for further power for you with the frontmount and 550cc injectors fitted. Cheers Iain
Guest sti3_lewak Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 i was told the vf34 would be fine for 400bhp but if not what would be the best turbo for 400bhp.??????
Big 'D' Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 i was told the vf34 would be fine for 400bhp but if not what would be the best turbo for 400bhp.?????? The VF34 would probably be totally out of puff by 370-380bhp something like the TD05 20G would be a good choice for getting 400bhp, depends how you want your car setup, if you want sheer acceleration I would suggest sticking with the smaller VF34/35 turbos but if its all out HP you are after then the TD05 20G would be the ticket to seeing your 400bhp. Cheers Iain

I mentioned the VF35 to the chap that tuned my car he said that it was a good choice but the vf34 was a roller bearing turbo (THINK SOMEONE MENTIONED THIS PART ALREADY). The way it accelerates at the moment with the stock Turbo is fantastic.... i think its a vf24 or something like that. Any idea were i could get a vf34/35 from as everywhere i have tried at the moment don't have any!!! Also how well does the VF34/35 cope with Antilag??? have a switch for antilag but don't use it much on the road. more for on track. thanks Dave

I am not sure how the VF34/35 will cope with running pressures of 1.5BAR either it may be worth looking into. Hope this helps Cheers Iain

Thanks again Dave

monkip1 Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Lewak I would ring up a few tuning companies like scooby clinic, RCM, Alan Jefferies ect to see what there opinion is on reaching 400bhp. I wouldent thought the VF35/34 would be good for hitting the bhp your looking for as even with all the correct supporting mods you be pushing it. Regards Monki

Really happy with the performance of the set up. Still running the Stock turbo on me Ver 3 at the moment but not sure how much it has left ( if you can shed some light on this would be helpful Big D and what turbo it is running) Know Marc quite well just haven't been in his since you fixed the problem he was having with his. Thought i think he might not be in england when i get back If you are at any of the meets in the future would be great to have a ride in ya Ver 3 see what the difference is between the two turbos would be great. Dave
Big 'D' Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I assumed you were running a VF35 by what was on your signature on the bottom of your posts sorry. Your standard turbo should be a VF23 a very punchy mid range turbo that I think would see you to the same sort of BHP as the 34 or 35 perhaps just a little bit slower on the spool up thats all, I find the VF23 quite a noisey turbo too, get a bit of a whine off them as they are idling : Cheers Iain
Guest sti3_lewak Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Sorry my bag, keep on meaning to change that. I bought what i thought was a good VF35 but it was Nackered so still on the stock turbo. Did have a vf34 but ran out of time to fitted so sold it on. Your right about the midrange punch on it... Can feel a hell of a difference between the two maps though haven't driven her in 3months..... guess i shall have to get use to her again when i get home. Big Difference between a 4.5ton armoured Landcruiser and a subaru Not really heard the whine noise on mine yet. But dam does it suck load. Dave
