How Doi Fit A New Clutch?

hi, i have a 2003 wrx impreza needing a new clutch, ive been told i need to drop the engine and gearbox out to fit the clutch, is this true?? seems an awfy lot of work for a clutch!! Any ideas on good clutches to get??

got ramps at work but i take it theres no other way than to remove the engine??

Never done it myself but had 3 clutches over the years and the engine has never been out

You can change a clutch without taken the engine out with or without a ramp BUT its a pain in the back side. Iv done it many times. its just the weight issuse the rest is easy.

Keep the egine in and strip all the gubbins about the gearbox and then drop the gearbox out. Easy was to aline the clutch is by getting an old centre shaft and cutting it down to put it in between the clutch and fly wheel

If you can find or get a back issue of Mar/Apr 09 Total Impreza (issue 9) there was a giode it there on how to do it, leaving the engine in.

did ma classic one on ma drive biggets thing was the weight of the box but was not 2 bad a job realy u dont need 2 touch the engine

2 done at the unit (mine and a blobeye), both 6 speeds and both times we took the engine out. Taking the engine out ain't that bad on the impreza's......thankfully lol

As for the clutch, i can recommend the Helix Organic clutch, lasted well in my car (15,000 miles) and still not slipping even with the increased torque

On a ramp, gearbox out, very straight forward, apprx 4-5 hours work, and I've done quite a few for the folks on here.
