Frank_STI Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 If you don't have a ramp, engine out is the easiest option

stuarted Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Never done it myself but had 3 clutches over the years and the engine has never been out
Guest CRAIG D Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 You can change a clutch without taken the engine out with or without a ramp BUT its a pain in the back side. Iv done it many times. its just the weight issuse the rest is easy.
TrackScotland Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 how'd you do it Craig? move/tilt the engine forward?
Guest CRAIG D Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 how'd you do it Craig?move/tilt the engine forward? Keep the egine in and strip all the gubbins about the gearbox and then drop the gearbox out. Easy was to aline the clutch is by getting an old centre shaft and cutting it down to put it in between the clutch and fly wheel Sounds easy ishhhhh..................................
davey l wrx Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 If you can find or get a back issue of Mar/Apr 09 Total Impreza (issue 9) there was a giode it there on how to do it, leaving the engine in. Hope it helps.
b4z Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 did ma classic one on ma drive biggets thing was the weight of the box but was not 2 bad a job realy u dont need 2 touch the engine
Frank_STI Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) 2 done at the unit (mine and a blobeye), both 6 speeds and both times we took the engine out. Taking the engine out ain't that bad on the impreza's......thankfully lol As for the clutch, i can recommend the Helix Organic clutch, lasted well in my car (15,000 miles) and still not slipping even with the increased torque Edited June 19, 2009 by Frank_STI
craigdmcd Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 On a ramp, gearbox out, very straight forward, apprx 4-5 hours work, and I've done quite a few for the folks on here.
