st3ph3n Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Car is at Hypertech for a wee service and some new discs today. Turns out the old front discs have chewed the front pads so need them too. Then to make matters even worse the Tein springs on the rears have cracked. Had to speak nicely to my dad who's going to nip over to Bonnybridge with the stock springs and I'll get them put back on the car for now.
ANDYJDMSTI Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 How long you had the springs on for Stephen?..........no chance of a warranty claim on them??
st3ph3n Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 The car was 4 years old in December and I got them I think in the November of the following year - so 3 and a half Years or so. For some fairly aggressive lowering springs on our salted crap roads it's probably not a bad run at all. Just makes an already expensive trip to the garage a bit more expensive. But hey - on the bright side - will be more comfortable to drive now!
ANDYJDMSTI Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 You'll be ble to do some offraoding now that you will be back on stilts!!
thefastone Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I always thought that it was standard to change the pads when you change the Discs anyway...

It is Dale - but the pads were fairly recent. I should have done the discs last year when I did them. Turns out the service was a bigger one than I thought too so there's a few extra quid on to the bill. All in all it's been a bit of a piss poor day for me.

Is it possible to buy the Teins in singles or doubles or are you outta pocket for a full set of replacements?
st3ph3n Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Alex said she'd look into it john but to be honest I'm just going to keep the stock ones on. Need the car back asap. The comfier ride might be nice!
st3ph3n Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Checked the Tein site and it's just a 1 year warranty on them. Never mind though. I'm just thankful the car is with a good honest garage with people who come back to you with options and prices for everything. It makes the pill a bit easier to swallow when the person on the end of the line sounds genuinely apologetic about finding something wrong on your car that they need to sort! If it had been in at the stealers I'd have probably passed out.
thefastone Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Aye, I dont think that you'd be wrong there Stephen, good that your getting it all fixed, but the bill is never welcome...
t3hWIT Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 That sounds a bit fishy. I had S-Techs on my car for a year in the harsh PA snow and salt, and they looked just as good when I removed them as they did going in. Where did you purchase the springs from? I know that Tein had an issue with counterfeit springs a while back.

One of his Teins snapped and I don't know what the outcome of that was. Hey may have removed or replaced them in which case he'd have spares left over, maybe.... might be worth a shot. IIRC, it was a front one he lost. Edited April 30, 2009 by TheWelsho

If I could have been without the car for some time I would have fished about for replacement rears only but it's not handy being without it.
buffalo Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 yeah this happened to me though the springs were considerably younger. it was the drivers rear that went on mine it it was a brand new box of shiny new ones that was required unfortunately. pain in the a***.

Aye, I know what you mean But you're beginning to worry me. Not only swaping the cockpit for the camera, its now a soft and comfortable ride! C'moan big yin, get a grip!
st3ph3n Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 Perhaps John. The car was too much of a compromise. Next time it'll be 2 cars. If I had 5K lying around I'd have bought Chris K's AX and gone sprinting and hillclimbing this year.

Ach well, yer a young boay with plenty of time to do full circle and get "back into it" for want of a better term. As for auld guys like me, no such luxury, gotta live up before the senses go!
camcq Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 TheWelsho said: , gotta live up before the senses go! Never a truer sayin eh? And wow bit of a sore brake change eh? Iv just had to do my rear suspension too got a full set shockies/springs cheap. Standard tho but time and money is the issue but im able to do my own so lightens it a bit especialy the pocket. Christ it was the brakes last wk that left me 500 oot. But the pleasure we get from the cars makes up for it. well for me it does.
st3ph3n Posted May 1, 2009 Author Posted May 1, 2009 It's not the individual costs that were the shock, more that it all came in one go.
st3ph3n Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 Got the car back this afternoon. Feels like a new car, and it should after what was done! It does look like it's on stilts though. Once I get these brakes bedded in I might even make it down for a Glasgow run!
