ed-209 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Got the Carbotech XP8 Pads fitted on Sat. after bedding in, which must be the easiest bedding process I've done, went for a run on Sunday, doing a little lap of my own private back roads, home-kirky-lennoxtown-milngavie-drymen-alexandria - McD's then back home again. no fade what so ever, brake just got better and better. even after really hard braking touching the brakes, would make the passenger almost leave the seat, thinking of changing his name to garfield as he was stuck to the windscreen so much. The brakes really feel like you have six pots fitted, they really are that good, much better than anything I have tried with this car or any in the past. Thanks to all the guys who pointed me in the right direction. Ed.
ed-209 Posted April 27, 2009 Author Posted April 27, 2009 Who did you get them from in the end Ed? Directly from Carbotech Europe on the link you give me.
westtra Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I take it these are carbon metalic pads? If so had them on my leon cupra R a few years ago and theye were fenominal. And if I remember the bedding in process. Fit pads. Go out do some hard braking, job done.
johns Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I've had these fitted to my STi for about 6 months now. The biggest issue I have with them is the amount of brake dust they produce. Even under light commuting use (about 120 miles in a week), the front wheels are almost black by the end of the week. If you leave the wheels a few weeks between cleaning (as I do over winter ), then it's very difficult to shift the built up deposits even using the very corrosive Wonder Wheels cleaner and leaving it to soak in for longer periods of time! I've even got stains on my driveway now from washing the wheels with the amount of dust that comes off them. Mine also squeel a bit under light use when the are hot. I think I'll go back to the DS2500s again after these ones, despite them being a bit more expensive.
sti pretender Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Can you get these for a Classic and can you buy them online? Looking at discs and pads for the Type R.

mystery machine Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Sounds like they perform well, Ed. What kind of Scooby did you fit them to? (newage + 4-pot = WRX?)
thewelsho Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Sounds like they perform well, Ed.What kind of Scooby did you fit them to? (newage + 4-pot = WRX?) Same car as yours Tam, only an estate car, er em, I mean wagon
mystery machine Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Cheers, John. Can't believe you broke the Scooby taboo and actually typed the 'E' word Next thing I'll be describing the Impreza to friends as a "4 by 4"!

ed-209 Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Sounds like they perform well, Ed.What kind of Scooby did you fit them to? (newage + 4-pot = WRX?) John (the welsho) is correct it's a wrx hawkeye wagon (no E word here) Thank god I never said they are used by Evo drivers. ooops. JohnS - getting my alloys done dark silver so the brake dust will not show so much. I hope.
mystery machine Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Thank god I never said they are used by Evo drivers. ooops. Oh noooo! He said 'Evo'! Bolllocks, now I've said it too Much were your pads, Ed?
mystery machine Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 And putting stuffed toys on the rear shelf Reminds me of a Vauxhall Calibra I once owned - guy I bought it from had big puffy pillows on the rear shelf
ed-209 Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) Oh noooo! He said 'Evo'! Bolllocks, now I've said it too Much were your pads, Ed? The pads where £172.50 delivered. (3-4 days) that inc's a little bit of discount as the prices went up just before I bought them Edited April 29, 2009 by ed-209

I am very impressed with the endless racing pads and feel they are every bit as good as the DS2500's but cheaper and they last longer Edited April 30, 2009 by Arch

I went through loads of reviews of brake pads and they where the only ones no one complained of fade, lots of compaints about noise and dust, but I can live with that. Edited April 30, 2009 by ed-209

Was only offering advice and i would certainly not be putting any thing on my Race RA that might "fail" I think the stopping thing is a bit more critical on a track car than on a road car as the level and intensity of use is much more extreme
Jimmy321 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Hi ED, these are cheaper than the DS2500? So £175 in total for front and rear pads?
ed-209 Posted April 30, 2009 Author Posted April 30, 2009 Hi ED, these are cheaper than the DS2500? So £175 in total for front and rear pads? no such luck, that's for the front pads only. Arch, I know what you mean .
