chris_blair Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Guys, My car is currently out of MOT and is garaged up in Fife. I need to transport it to either Dundee or Perth to get it serviced, fixed up and then MOT'd. Can anyone recommend either somewhere I can hire a car trailer in the north east fife/Dundee area or even a company that will collect my car and transport it to Dundee/Perth? Cheers, Chris.
ur.a.bus Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 i looked into hiring a trailer for moving a jeep, found this guy on ebay. he in in Montrose http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Transporter-Trai...A1%7C240%3A1318 steve
JohnSt Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I wouldn't try to to take an Impreza on a Single wheel trailer for any distance, to heavy !! ---john---
dan_jess Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Its legal to drive your car to the MOT station that its booked into, just book it into wherever your taking it.

This is correct, as long as its still insured you can drive it without mot and tax as long as its booked in. My cousin owns his own garage and has done this regularly.
JerryH Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I used the guys below for the wifes car last year. £25/30 for the day for a full car trailer. Whiteside Trailers West Bank Airntully, Stanley, Perth, Perthshire PH1 4PH Tel: 01738 828716
Maxxed_Ross Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 just type "trailer hire Fife" into Google, that's how i found my trailer to use for moving last week. I used a company called "tow it"... very resonably priced One thing that almost caught me out was that you need an additional trailer test to tow anything over 740kg if you passed your test after 1997 I think it was. If you get a trailer I'll tow it with my Defender if you want, as long as I'm onshore and available
gordi82 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I work @ Perth your ok to drive your car to the mot station as long as its booked in. Its legal. Any problems call me @ John r Weir. Gordon
chris_blair Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Cheers for the replies. As helpful and willing as ever. The car failed it's MOT on brakes about 20months ago so I don't fancy driving it from Fife to Perth!!!!! I'd probably would end going off at the first corner I had to brake for. Luckily my Dad has a Discovery I can borrow to trailer it so I think I will be heading down that route. Again thanks for the help. Chris.
