~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Always wondered what this connector would have been used for ? Any ideas - Weeb or Pedals could likely tell me but have lost their numbers It's plumbed into the little blanking plate down behind the hand-brake Suspect I could use it for power ? Thanks Cal p.s related thread of mine http://forums.sidc.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=130271
thefastone Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) Em... thats a BNC connector... Its Coax... Christ knows what thats doing there... where does it go? only thing that ive ever seen those connectors used for is audio visual.... Oh, and quick edit to say that the other looks like a 3.5mm Jack.... as in headphones... Edited March 24, 2009 by thefastone
stum450n Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) I'm probably going to be miles out but the small one looks like a TRS mini-jack (headphone socket) and the big one looks to be a Belling-Lee coaxial cable jack (TV aerial) Confused as to why they would be in your car though! I'm probably well off the mark! Noticed I no longer have the ability to spell! Edited March 24, 2009 by stum450n
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Well seen you worked for the RAF ! Just found this on Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_connector Presume it was used for CB radios or something ? Anyone else have any brain waves ?
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted March 24, 2009 Author Posted March 24, 2009 Could have been used for an external GPS aerial ?
stum450n Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Wouldn't have seen any time as a taxi would it? The car that is.
fai17 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 maybe pedals was watching porn ona mine tv while driving round knockers!
RS Grant Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Would that have been when the car was used in Getaway in Glasgow?? Haha... I jest, however CB radios does kinda conjour up those images for me. Cheers, Grant
thefastone Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) Actually Cal, CB radio sounds the most likley thing mate, We use them for all of our recording equipment on the ROVs, but yeah, if thats the case, I might exect it to run towards teh boot, thats most likely to be where the Ariel would have been... Oh and whilst I'm on teh subject, no, I wouldn't have thought that coax is suitable for power, its a signal cable... Edited March 24, 2009 by thefastone
the squiggle Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Screens and TV's in the car have been abot in Japan for donkeys years More than likely for a rear monitor with TV input
pedals Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 maybe pedals was watching porn ona mine tv while driving round knockers! Haha, very true Peter. It was a Winston "Bongo Bongo" special edition DVD that a certain SIDC member had procured from oversees contacts in outer Jebrovia I believe
pedals Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Cal, First of all, car is looking good Nice one. The connector in question was in the car when I got it and always wondered what it did. I may be very wrong but I think weeb said it was to do with either an arial or mobile phone. I have a feeling that a cable attached to it runs into the boot and should be lying loose under the boot carpet. Could be totally wrong though!! I also think that there was a connection from the battery that ran into cabin just behind the centre console and ran into the drivers footwell. Was a black, spiral lead. I am sure weeb used this to power a Road Angel as there was never a cigarette lighter. I never used it and tucked it under the drivers footwell mat. Hope this may be of some help! Pedals
scouk Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 (edited) Recently bought a couple 12v cameras for the Scoob and they have BNC connectors fitted as standard.. Coax suggest some sort of TV/Video signal.. Looking a the location of the socket.. COudl have been used for an internal onboard camera at somepoint. Potentially with a Digital video recorder/PC in the boot.. The 3.5mm jack is most likely 12v source to power a camera.. IMHO Edited March 24, 2009 by ScoUK

Pedals Thanks Graeme ! Found that missing Lamco boost gauge in behind the stereo incidentally ! W.r.t the spiral lead - think I might be able to use that if I can trace it. I need to know if there's an inline fuse associated with it. Cheers Cal
JohnSt Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 CBs use a PL259 connector for the arial not a BNC. I'd think that was for an early Mobile Phone arial and the 3.5 jack looks like power, easily checked, stick a volt meter on it with the ignition on
