badbaz Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Was just after 4 laps baz but first time gill was driving then it happened to me as well. Was handbrake on? Do you have it on sandwich plate at filter - mine is fitted there and I wasn't getting over 100c, perhaps you guys are THAT fast What oil do you use?
lewisscoob Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Oil grade and suitability is what I would be changing before introducing an oil cooler along with its potential failure and subsequential fire risks...
mctwistuk Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 It's not a sandwich plate. Went the other option as it was meant to be more accurate. Via the bung in the top of the engine or something. Forgive my lack of technical knowledge. No idea what oil is in it which is another reason for wanting to do an oil change so I know it is good stuff that is used. I do get above 5mph you know lol
mctwistuk Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 After advice on the post above i ended up going the non sandwich plate route which does give higher readings compared to sandwich plate. Looks like it is ok temp wise by what's being said on here. Thanks for the help guys
scoobywho Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 The sandwitch plate is fitted at the oil cooler ring anyway so temp will be slightly lower, If the heat gets into the 200s you would be better buying a new engine lol my skyline cooked the oil while drifting about in the homebase carpark and caused leaks on sump, rear crank, and a melted alloy rod on number 5 cylinder, oil pressure gauge went to red and the thing just chucked it
