GazTurboUK
Alright guys was speaking to someone with an Impreza today that advised me that when im going to be replacing my struts that the brake flexi has to be disconnected in order to replace the strut unit due to the setup of the mounting of the flexi on the strut? Can anyone confirm this is right? Seems a bit f**ked up imo but thought id check before i start stripping half the car down to get a wee surprise Link to comment
scouk
The brake flex is just bracketed/held to the strut rather than being fed through it in anyway. Shoudl more or less unclip from the base collar of the strut after slackening a nut.. No need to remove the flex from the car it'll just dangle around until the new strut is installed. arch
Think you should ignore "someones" advice in future Link to comment
GazTurboUK
I thought it was weird myself, have changed a fair few struts in the past but the first time ive ever heard of something daft like this. Just couldnt be ar*ed with the wheel off jacked up then check to find out it may have been right. lol Link to comment
ciaranrb5
They should unclip in theory i could not get any of mine to unclip had to cut through every single bracket with a hacksaw was a right ball ache due to limited access as well. Link to comment
J.C.
On my car (MY00) the brake line goes through a hole in a bracket which is fixed onto the strut, so the brake line would need to be disconnected to remove/replace the strut. (or you could cut the bracket) Link to comment
J.C.
I was changing my brake lines today so I took a couple of pics to show what I mean Link to comment
scouk
D'oh! Yep, definately looks like they feed through the strut there.. They must have changed that on the run up to the newages Link to comment
jae
I think there is actually a wee bracketty thing in there that originally would have allowed the hose to be unclipped but that pic is just like mine was and it's usually rusted in there solid, I had to hack saw through my brackets to change my struts as you said a pain in the rear end and a couple of skint knuckles :} Link to comment
GazTurboUK
Cheers guys, as i feared... oh well just need to renew the hacksaw blade by the looks of it, or just get braided hoses whilst im at it lol Link to comment

Ahhh mine was rusted solid anyways so it had to be the hacksaw Link to comment
