ur.a.bus Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 as title, had a strange one last night, took a pal through to glasgow from dundee to look at a car, had no problems at all with the car. got back to dundee at 11pm and was outside my pals house chatting as i dropped him off with car idling away fine, then i heard the revs drop sounding as if ran out of petrol, car died and would not start. got a lift home, went back to car today and it started no problems and drove it home. any ideas what this could be, bit worried it could happen again further from home. its my99 uk turbo cheers steve
martin_allen Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Not sure but something like this could well be electrical. Something gets hot, overheats and breaks down but is fine when cold. Would see if you can recreate the issue at home by getting the car nice and hot close to home.... 5t.
emoe Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Have you changed the Fuel pump? There is a sock in the fuel pump that can clog up and cause the fuel to starve through the system. It normally takes a while to happen but if something blocks the sock filter, then the symptoms you state can happen easily. Pull the pump and check the filter. Its a simple check to eliminate that problem.

jimmyGforce Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 In case the problem comes back, i had the same thing and it turned out to be the fuel pump relay. Car would cut every few hundred miles or so and start again after about 10mins. First time i was like you and left car only to be surprised by it starting first time in the morning.

Car would cut every few hundred miles or so and start again after about 10mins. First time i was like you and left car only to be surprised by it starting first time in the morning. went to inverness last night to see the view, when i parked up at inverness the car would not start again straight away when i found a better spot. left it till after the concert (expecting to have to call the AA) and it was fine till about pitlochery when the car died just as i was passing a layby once stopped i started it again got to perth, filled tank up (as i thought i had more crap in tank) and got home. today i opened the tank expecting to see more crap but its all clean. i am getting 2 codes, 12 = starter signal and 32 = air flow could the air flow make the car do this (not start and break down) or is it more likely to be the fuel pump relay? steven
jimmyGforce Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I got no fault codes when it was the fuel pump relay so wouldn't think it was that with you getting codes.
Big 'D' Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 The fault code 32 could also be the o2 sensor which could cause running issues, have you tried an ECU reset? If you disconnect the battery for an hour or so then reconnect it and check to see if the faults have gone, take it for a run and if it does it again and the fault code is the same (32) then I would be tempted to change the o2 sensor. Cheers Iain
