sniffmydiff
hi and a happy new year to you all . ive got an hawkeye sti with the 3yr warranty expiring next week,i've recieved the offer to extend the cover for an additional year or two from subaru ,but im not sure what to do,at the moment the car is standard except for a prodrive back box and a strut brace, ive been considering modifying the car to get some more power, the powerstation route appeals or any other suggestions would be good,so do i go for peace of mind for another year or go for the power ?,the car has covered 40k and it's £396 for the years extra cover, many thanks Link to comment

t1rone
I was in the same position as you last week, my 55 plate STI's warranty was up and could extend it for 12 months for£400. I decided against it cause I've never had any reliability issues with it and if some thing did go wrong would it cost £400 to put right? The question is have you had any problems with it and if so it may be worth extending for peace of mind, but if youre like me and its been a total pleasure to own just take out the 12 months breakdown cover for £70 like me. As for more power, I read somewhere Powerstation were giving 12 months warranties for all performance packages they carry out, may be wrong and you would need to look into how extensive the warranties go but this would be total peace of mind knowing your covered for the work carried out for a further 12 months! Maxxed_Ross
you often find these extended versions don't actually cover parts that are likely to go wrong... so I wouldn't bother personally Link to comment
sniffmydiff
thanks for the replies, the only work i've had done under warranty is the rear suspension legs, they had the usual knocking and were replaced back in the summer.the only issue i've got with the car at the moment is a rattle/knocking on initial start up,it isn't always there but sounds awful,iv'e read some other comments on this issue on the forums but im not really sure what the noise is,anyway the car is going to have an end of warranty inspection on friday along with an mot,im also looking to change the wonderfull headunit at some point soon, thats another dilemma lol, thanks again Link to comment
RATechnology
I would make sure that in your end of Warranty inspection that you make a point of telling the dealer about the noise!! Make sure they note it on their's and your paperwork... This will then hopefully cover should anything go wrong.. I wouldn't bother with extended warranty, there not worth the paper their written on. I spent 6 years working in a main dealers working for Mercedes, Porsche, SAAB and they cause more trouble then their worth. If there is a major problem that results from the noise your currently expeiencing, most manufacturers will cover any repairs under a goodwill scheme.. Not sure about Subaru though? As long as the problem is noted before warranty expires! Definately worth talking to Dirk, Rich & Karl @ PowerStation. Top work and great lads who will look after you! Link to comment

I've got an 06 Hawkeye STI and I've heard a few thumps etc coming from the rear of the car but I haven't been able to put my finger on what was causing it. Cheers JT Link to comment
sniffmydiff
hi JT ,regarding the rear suspension i had a knocking sound which was more noticeable on low speeds on uneven roads, apparently its the top of the strut moving back and forth, side to side,i had both replaced 3 months ago under warranty,i had an end of warranty inspection today and have been told my o/s rear strut needs replacing again !!,it's going back in next week,im still unsure about taking out the extended warranty, the rest of the car seems ok,hope this helps Link to comment

I've had a few low speed noises as well so I'm wondering if its the same thing. I've also noticed a slight jerk from the rear of the car along with the noise when applying the power. I'm wondering about going for a custom setup anyway once the car is out of warranty as I think it rides way to high at the moment and I'd like to have a bit more adjustability in the set up.
