corsa Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 To Ullapool and the best driving roads in Scotland on Saturday for a week. And the good thing is that Nato are doing the joint warrior 082 excersices all week, something for me to watch from our chalets bacony over some pimms. Will try and get some car racing fighter jet footage and post it up on my return. Roads a must will be Ullapool to cape warth many times during the week which has an excellent view of Garvie Island which they bomb from Balnakiel beach. Lets hope i dont get hit!!! See ya. Davie.

Look out, I'll be loading some of the jets bombing and shootin Garvie Island! Knowing our Jockeys, they have a tendency to miss the target every now and again.
Big Gordon Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Sounds good, planning on a couple of days away at the end of the month and was wandering where to go. Any recommendations on where to stay in the Ullapool area?
scoobysailor Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 The road out to Loch Ewe is a good road up there. I used to deliver "stuff" from Faslane to "somewhere" up there. You might even get to see a ship or three......
corsa Posted October 9, 2008 Author Posted October 9, 2008 LOL, Altbea is one of the places we may visit and look at the scenery Places to stay, Arch Inn,Caledonia Hotel, Armair point chalets ( highly reccommended). D
Big Gordon Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Had a wee look at the map and think i'm heading for the Isle of Seil, not much to do but drink, eat and chill out
craigdmcd Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 I'm quite often up this way as the Outlaws stay 300 yards from the refuelling pier at the Nato depot in Aultbea. The North road in is spectacular, but has some points that can catch you out when not paying attention. The south road is just beautiful but full of them damn tourists. I have used the road from Ullapool to the east that ends up roughly in Dornoch. It's actually quicker to go by Dingwall but not near as much fun.
