What To Do Next

Been having a wee think about about what to do to the scoob next and i think i have made a decision.

I have an 07 sti Hawkeye with a centre de-cat and a TSL Firestorm exhaust, now what i dont need is more power etc etc not really into that but what i would like is maybe front de-cat,make it a tad louder, have it programmed ( if thats the name for it) to make lots of pops and bangs.

And if a small power increase was a result of doing anything regarding the above then great.

I dont need to alter bushes,geometry springs etc etc but my question is>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What do i go for?

Who would do it?

And of course how much would it cost?

I await many veried options.

Cost about a Grand

Decat the rest of the system and get AndyF to remap the car with the pops and bangs activated on the over run

A grand for some pops... waste of cash if you ask me! I can think of many better ways to spend that kind of money. Plus the fact, a full decat makes the car illegal, which is not something I could be bothered with TBA besides being illegal, there is the hassle of getting a so-called "friendly" MOT station. Mind you with the full decat and the map, you'd get uround 350bhp. I know you're not into more power but if you're going to be spending 600+ on a re-map, you might as well take it.

Having said all that, I'm not sure you are not just pulling some legs here :P

Davie, as you have an STI all you need is the decat downpipe exhaust wise as you have the rest done. You probably want to do the fuel pump too - which is not expensive anyway.

I got a decat downpipe from Gus who gets it from his mate. They're sitting at about £130 on ebay. You'll get the pump for about £70. Then just need Andy to work his magic after that.

I'm a bit biased, but as long as you use your car as more of a toy rather than daily.. then I think that pops and bangs are a bit of a giggle that adds to the fun of driving the car. Haven't really met anyone that isn't a fan of them yet. :P

Oh, dont listen to JW of the Sports CAT Appreciation Society....... Full de-cat all the way, it'll sound mega with the Firestorm. :P

Was thinking purely the fun factor, Full de-cat,pops and bangs =lots of fun n games.

Not worried about the car being illegal etc, MOT does not concearn me as i either get rid at 3 yrs or have a very friendly MOT tester ( who else MOTs a crally car spitting out pure fuel!!)

If i go for a full decat does andy do the lot or does he only do the pooter stuff?

Whats the best was of contacting him?

Phone, visit him personally and discuss is my best option dont really know.

Andy doesn't do any dirty work; just the tuning stuff. If you get Meercat to do you a downpipe etc., they will also fit it for you as part of the price. Best way to contact Andy is by e-mail and give him your car's details mods and what your aim is; he'll do the rest.

Decat is pointless as I will only get a few more BHP for an illegal car. The car is already a cop-magnet. The last thing I need is PC superkeen giving me a road-side emmissions test. Plus it's illegal.

With your turbo and decat, you car will likely make around 350 bhp and near 400 ft/lbs torque. AFAIK, you will not need any of the other stuff like injectors and uprated fuel pumps etc.

Pops and bangs are cool, but only if you can turn them on and off - my personal opinion :rolleyes:

I dont know if you covered it JW, but is it worth mentioning that its illegal to run a full de-cat on the road?? :rolleyes::rotfl:

Dave, having the pops and bangs added requires a remap, so option 1 and 2 are actaully the same because the price of the tuning includes the cost of the software license, hence the reason why there is such a big hit on your first map. Remap is going to cost you over £600 and the decatted downpipe will cost you about £300 I think. My sportscat down pipe was £400, but that obviously included the cat so I'd imagine yours would be a bit cheaper (I'm assuming its just the downpipe you need). If you budget for about £1200 you should be ok :rolleyes:

So you need £130 for that, £600ish for Andy, and £70 for a fuel pump. Total = £800 plus labour if required. Job done.

I ended up getting the pump changed eventually, but only to rule that out as the casue of my problems when my piston broke. I originally got the map done without the pump being changed and ran it on road and track with no issues. For the cost of a pump, I suppose you might as well change it. Oops, just noticed the panel filter too,m that's another £50. I got mine from Andy on the day of the map.

With regards to the panel filter needed for the map...if my car has PPP on it, would the filter have been changed

at that point or will I just have the standard one?

My one is green and I think I remember Andyjdmsti looking at it when he was going to sell me one, but he said

it was ok???

If its green, then I think thats already been changed... IIRC the standard one that came out my STi was a normal white paper filter with an orange border and I assume that they'll use the same filter between WRX/STi models. You dont NEED a replacement filter for a re-map, however, every little bit helps and for 35quid, I decided it was better to throw one in than not.

I replaced mine with a Green Filter from AWD, think it was about 30-35quid and about 2 mins to fit. :rolleyes:

Jw gotta ask you this but why are you preaching about the legallities on things when you are the guy that runs around with illegal number plates??? and for the record pre 93 scoobies can run full decat and sale through mot emmissions, and i know of a 95 classic that sailed mot running a full decat. and just so you know that anybody that has a car mapped is illegal!! and all the mods you have done to your car with out telling insurance is illegal, need i go on. so even if you change your plates your car is still illegal.

Sounds interesting..care to explain further ?

because you are messing around with the standard factory settings in other words as soon as you plug a computer in to the ecu and start messing around with things ie more power pops and bangs. apexi power fc is not a road legal ecu its a pure racing ecu.
