At the moment its 116.9 which is the same as tesco standard sees to be! Ive heard good things about tesco 99ron too!
Big 'D' Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 (edited) :P I have often left a petrol station with this image in my head, thinking this dont feel like V-Power, I tend not to go back to those stations I use V-Power regardless of cost because they are worth it Thats not to say that I am happy with the cost of fuel these days Cheers Iain Edited August 10, 2008 by Big 'D'
keithwalton Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I tend to stick to use v power the most as I have a shell garage just down the road. Though if i'm feeling tight i'll run it on tesco 99, especially if i happen to be at tesco's at the time (8 mile round trip to get the stuff) and they're doing a 5p off deal. Prices are in free fall atm which is great, i've found getting to know the guys at shell is useful. v-power has a tendency to go off the older it gets (looses its aromatics) some of the guys at my local shell if they see me coming will but the newest tank on for me having a jdm scoob thats mapped to 100, its very sensitive to which fuel your running, particularly on a cold start. I once run it on esso super I think and it didn't like idling
emoe Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 tesco 99ron car runs crap on v power as has been proved before TESCO 99ron AND UNLEADED ARE THE SAME!!!
stum450n Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Thats not to say that I am happy with the cost of fuel these days I had to have a chuckle after reading that article you gave me where you where talking about expensive fuel at 106!

monkip1 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I mainly use my car on Tesco99 as its closer, V-Powers bit further away, but never EVER noticed any differance in performance or how my car runs on both fuel!. And if Tesco99 and normal unleaded are the same wouldent that be false advertising?

Monk, tesco 99 and normal unleaded ARE NOT the same, V power claims have been 100ron, but its actually 99 ron fuel. Tescos is 99 ron fuel. Standard Unleaded ranges from 94-95ron, and super plus 97 ron. TBH youll not really notice a whole lot of difference in everyday driving on 97 to 99 ron, the 95 ron will make the car run a bit weaker, but again, off boost and standard driving isnt going to see much problem there. The difference is felt when the car is driven hard, The lower octane fuel cant burn properly and completely so you end up with a hot spot from unburnt fuel in the combustion chamber igniting after the spark. DETONATION in other words. The reason you get it is because as you push harder in the car the air intake temp rises, and along with the pressure of the air intake (turbo and supercharged cars) you loose density and added to a loss of octane you get det, the higher octane fuel burns more completely so you get less det at the same temp and pressure. If youre not boosting hard, and the temps are in normal range, the car will run fine on 95 ron fuel. Also you can just add octane booster or fill up with 99 ron when you hit trackdays. In my car i run 95 ron, having no problems with the knocksensor, no det, and temps all ok, and every third fill up i use tesco 99 ron.
Vimmy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Yer I'm a V-Power kinda guy, was Optimax before that. I have been known to drive miles out of my way to get the stuff, can't be doing with putting the other stuff in my car. Not sure scientifically how well it performs but my car has been running on the good stuff since i had it 3 years ago, it was on 94k then and now is on 161k, with no problems to the running of the car whatsoever.

Aaah, the joys of owning a scoob! No evo would even get close to that mileage!
Vimmy Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Aaah, the joys of owning a scoob! No evo would even get close to that mileage! Yeah I'm not sure if it the Evo build quality or the driver abuse that does them in, they should buy a proper British car, like my Subaru However it is starting to leak a little at the seams, still with the original clutch, afaik A little TLC and a decent garage goes a long way
