  1. ooo this sounds like a plan, i'll be coming up on the saturday and spending the night with my parents in Bicester. i'll be only a couple of mins around the ring road from the esso station but knowing me i'll be on the later side of 8am. What time do you guys plan to leave the esso ?
  2. All depends on who you are with, some companies charge more some dont. who i'm with quoted me exactly the same for a uk turbo 2000 as a jap wrx. the uk car has 208bhp as standard, yet the jap has between 240 and 280 bhp depending on which version (1 = 240, 2= 260, 3-> = 280) so of course i got the jdm
  3. Ancient thread yes! but i've just been watching this chop shop crap via my top up tv box, and have just seen the 'boy racer' edition and spotted a fair few scoobies i recognised (mainly craigy's) i even looked up the event on this forum only to find the sidc stand is sold out for this year
  4. I tend to stick to use v power the most as I have a shell garage just down the road. Though if i'm feeling tight i'll run it on tesco 99, especially if i happen to be at tesco's at the time (8 mile round trip to get the stuff) and they're doing a 5p off deal. Prices are in free fall atm which is great, i've found getting to know the guys at shell is useful. v-power has a tendency to go off the older it gets (looses its aromatics) some of the guys at my local shell if they see me coming will but the newest tank on for me having a jdm scoob thats mapped to 100, its very sensitive to which fuel your running, particularly on a cold start. I once run it on esso super I think and it didn't like idling
  5. Just ordered my sticker this shall be my first sidc event and i shall be bringing friends
  6. ditto to what buzzuk said, dont run an import on regular unleaded unless its been remapped (v.difficult for a 93) 99 is recommended (shell v power, tesco finest) bp ultimate is 98, the rest of the supers are 97 which really should be run with an octane booster. How much are you paying per litre ? 110p for 99 ? If so that is about 6 gallons of fuel which is 16.66 mpg, thats low! the lowest mine has ever done is 18mpg and that was alot of city miles, its recently returned 24mpg which was mix between lanes and motorway
  7. At that price no!! Just the pads, which require you to have 4 pot calipers already
  8. For those that did watch the show, was there advise fairly useless ?? They said a) look under the car for signs of off road adventures listen for knocking noise on start up as it could mean big ends on the way out esp on early models (tho don't we get slight piston slap until warm ... which could be confused) c) check oil (to which they showed a car with black oil!) for which its running and how often its been changed. The said subaru recomend's 7000 but 'enthusiasts' change it at 3k (thought 5k was the given norm for normal driving) and to use fully synth oil (though scoobys esp early ones hated fully synth and really should be run on semi-synth)
  9. Thats because Directline, Tesco et all are all underwritten by the same company (RBS i think) which are usually available through comparison sites. DL insure my citroen just fine however they wouldn't touch the subaru. Using comparison sites the cheapest quotes i was getting was with endsleigh, all sites came out about the same. Goto endsleigh and type in the exact same details and the cheapest they could come up with was £600 more. I put the two side by side and could not spot a difference, so i accepted the cheaper one
  10. If the feb meet ends up just creeping into march as in the weekend of 1/2nd of march i'll be in the area for the RR session at silverstone
  11. welcome i grew up in bicester and my parents still live there, defo recognise those houses in the background if you ever see a dark blue (+muddy) classic saloon around town it's probably me
  12. Is that both outside edges of the tyre or just the one ? If its both outsides sounds like they're running under pressure (what are you running them at ??) If its only the one side sounds like to much camber. Tracking in the laziest form just checks that all 4 wheels are pointing straight
  13. By yellow roads im referring to those on a landranger OS map. With a 'narrow yellow' being the worst grade of road that has a sealed surface (white roads often don't have a sealed surface or are significantly pot holed, either way they are a no go!)
  14. What are the F1's like for tackling abit of mud on roads, and what are the sidewalls like these days ? People in my local motor club used to use them quite a few years ago now but found a) that they came unstuck on mud and tended to just slide across as if they were on ice. and suffered quite a few more sidewall failures than any other tyre (from driving on yellow roads and just hitting smallish bumps / holes at speed) which meant they didn't last that long in the club. I'm surprised the new boots have had an effect on tramlining, unless they are a different size ? I've found mine does seem to like to go where it wants at times. I've got 215/40/R17's with Yoko s drives (http://www.yokohamatire.com/TireIntro.asp?TireID=900&ID=uhp) on the front and toyo trampio vimode's (http://toyotires.jp/catalog/point/images/vimode-point5_04.jpg) on the rear
  15. Even on a short ratio box 50mph is way off cam / off boost. So nearly all of the acceleration time will be from 50-70mph (that is the standardised test to which bmw diesels! my scooby comes on cam and on boost at just before 70mph and so all hell breaks loose at this speed. It makes for holding exactly 70mph quite difficult!
  16. With the silverstone date being cheaper and sooner, I think i'm going to have to drop out from this one as well i'm afraid, you still have lots of people going though! 1. wimpy 2. Smoove Mike 3. Tyreman 4. JKScoob 5. Budgie 6. craigy 7. scooby51 8. Az Sti Type R 9. Woodcote 10. Little Green Goblin 11. Sisubaru 12. giboman 13. TurboAndy 14. Pete 300 15. Pete 300 16. James04 17. 18. 19. 20.
  17. I wouldn't want to attempt going that fast backwards! The main reason being your car will become rear wheel steered and thus will become unstable at around 25-30mph and it will try and turn around! Great for doing J turns, not so great for your bodywork if there is anything else around!
  18. Nice car, but what focus weighs 1945kg's ? (that is ball park veryon weight) The heaviest i can find is a 2 litre diesel at 1438kg, the lightest being a 1.6 petrol at 1227kg, which is 3kg lighter than my scoob my old citroen diesel was 1330kg, most hatches are around the 1100-1400 mark these days depending on petrol / diesel engines. Even big saloons like the bmw 5 are 1475kg and up. which is the same as the current sti's hawk-eye and the new one
  19. You have a warning light wow, wish mine had one of them! Mine just sinks down towards the E and i start to get nervous about how much fuel is left. Biggest fill up yet is 47l so i was pushing it fairly close
  20. I take it the 300 mile figure is on a 60l tank ? as mine has a 50l tank and 300miles is dreaming! On my first tank i did mostly motorway miles and some city driving and got an average of 26mpg. The second tank did alot more city miles and some lanes and got 18mpg (city miles were hurt due to short runs and then leaving her at idle to cool down) third tank i did alot more lanes including a road rally and got 22mpg. So it all depends on what you do. I'd consider a jap import as although it limits your insurance companies you can find some really neat low mileage ones, that and as standard they came with alot more power
  21. After being bored today i decided to have another go at working out what the switch does ... I managed to fix the pioneer computer thing turns out i'd bypassed its wires. Tracing back the switch cables one is indeed a ground as i first suspected as i found it connected to a screw under the gearbox gator. The other wire i traced under the passenger seat where i found it joined to another wire which came back! The wire that came back was labeled as 'parking brake ...' so it would appears to be some kind of override which will allow the electronics to work when the vehicle is moving by faking that the handbrake is on. I shall experiment with it later to see if the warning light comes on!
  22. nice classic :-) with all that snow i bet you're glad you don't have a turbo! else it would probably be in a snow bank somewhere by now
  23. A late slant eye then (slants ran to '05 and hawks started in '05) Rain just makes the driving a little bit more interesting especially with painted road markings
