Anyway, hope you're around tonight as I am going to be attempting to change the bolts on the fronts, so may need to be asking questions!
terzo neil Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) the rollbars came from a track basedc impreza and that was recommend for fast road/track use do you want me to come over and do them for you ? Edited August 8, 2008 by Terzo Neil
thewelsho Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 the rollbars came from a track basedc impreza and that was recommend for fast road/track usedo you want me to come over and do them for you ? Done it mate! Well, I just did one of the fronts as the other front is currently being held on by 5 nuts, so I will have a look at that later in the week. The rears I am going to leave to the pros, too much can go wrong there with ABS sensors and handrake things.
terzo neil Posted August 8, 2008 Author Posted August 8, 2008 easy enough isn't it not rocket science is it, done 2 roll bars in an hours, so did you like the pictures of your car then
frank c Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) Never heard of that set-up Neil .. Edited August 9, 2008 by Frank C
thewelsho Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 easy enough isn't itnot rocket science is it, done 2 roll bars in an hours, so did you like the pictures of your car then Ha yeah, was as good laugh Yeah I was surprised at how easy it was, but there is sill time for thw wheel or caliper to fall off! Ha! Only slight trouble I had was getting the studs all the way through. When I put the disk back on, I put the nuts in place and tightened them up to pull them through, but this started to bite into the disc-face and also damaged the nut. In the end, I used a spanner to protect the disc-face, but this was still causing the nuts to get damaged, I ended up just putting the wheel back on and tightening up, pulling the studs through the last couple of millimetres.

Linky Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 What Geo said^^... I made the mistake of fitting a 24mm and 22 rear whitle ine adjust adjustable and the car fronts of like crazy at KH ..... going to have to buy two more bars and sell the old ones..
terzo neil Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 well, went up the back roads pushing like i do, feels good hardly any understeer and nice and grippy and direct, can get on the power sooner as well

Linky Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 well, went up the back roads pushing like i do, feels good hardly any understeer and nice and grippy and direct, can get on the power sooner as well Yup mine is planted also and feels alot more solid as you'd expect with 155% more stiffness .... but wait to you get her on track and you'll see what i mean......annoyingly safe understeer and no front tires left after a day at KH :(....set of goosed 070's anyone

Linky Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 theres no such thing as annoyingly SAFE understeer - -understeer is the pits ,thats why we try to overcome it ,on nullify it geo Fully agreed and thats what we all want..... what i meant was..... Understeer is "deemed" to be safe Geo, as thats why it is generally dialed in by the OEM to most production vehicles as im sure you'll agree. If your car goes of the road forwards its deemed to be the fault of the driver. If a company produced very rear happy car and lots of there cars went off the road backwards it is deemed the fault of the company in producing a car that deos not handle "safely". I hate understeer and love oversteer but a neutral ballance is the more than likely fastest way around most racetracks, although it may not seem like it as a slide around tends to feel alot faster. This is why i'll be giving you a call and buying a new front and rear roll bar to fix the mistake i made of fitting a 24 front and a 22 rear Cheers Colin
b4z Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 am thinking of gettin new ones waht is the best sizes 2 use on a classic for fast road use??
fiestajohn Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 am thinking of gettin new ones waht is the best sizes 2 use on a classic for fast road use?? I have left the standard front one on (19mm?) and fitted an adjustable 22mm rear one along with uprated drop links all round, seems good to me.
cusco kid Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 dose this help with the under steer?? the best set up is 22mm front arb 24mm rear arb alloy d/links f+rear anti lift kit poly steering rack bushes lowered w/line flat out springs ideal for road and track m8 geo
thewelsho Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 dose this help with the under steer?? An uprated front ARB will help with understeer some, but it's main purpose its to dial out body roll. The cheapest way to deal with understeer is to have your geometry set up properly, that will certainly help as the car is set up for understeer when it comes out of the factory.
fiestajohn Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 dose this help with the under steer?? Definitely reduces it. The full set up described by "geo" will obviously be better but cost a lot more.

The cheapest way to deal with understeer is to have your geometry set up properly, that will certainly help as the car is set up for understeer when it comes out of the factory. geo set up is limited to what it can do --to combat roll stiffness probs you need to increase bar size .manufactures can only allow so much adjustment to settings because of cost restraints /compromise . the only way to attain better performance is to fit high quality after market parts ----thats why most of you are doing it geo
b4z Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 been 2 falkland performance 2 get the prodrive settings put on car made a big differance not wanting 2 spend mega money car also has springs
