billyboy Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Got a card from Subaru advertising "Turbo Weekend at your dealer".So went along to S+S and duly had a test drive in a white hatchback STi.I was well surprised at how it drove and handled, also it has cruise control etc etc.Not having any intention to buy at this particular juncture i was offered 16K for my 2005 STi which has only 17800 and still on its original brake pads etc etc which you will agree is a good trade in price. Now with its flared wheel arches etc it looks the dogs dangly bits but i just cant get to grips with the hard plastic Nova chav dashboard. Anyway left S+S and went back to castlemilk via Galston and East kilbride and i realise why the old Scoobys are better.Noise, performance, rockhard suspension and ride and the im a Subaru so get the hell out of my way looks. Despite this iam considering buying a new Impreza not in W.R.Blue but grey with 5 spoke 18" wheels. Its gonna be a hard decision tho.
gus the bus Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Thats a pretty good trade in price Billy Mm very tempting is it not!!?
thewelsho Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Man that is a good trade-in price and it would be tempted if I were you. Don't forget though, some tweeks to the new car can bring it up to the same spec as the old car with the exception (perhaps) of the "get out of my way" look the Blobeye has. Plus the fact that you were never 100% happy with youe current car and some of the little issued you had, so maybe a change is what you need.
G.Mac Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 thats a v good trade in as I think the book is approx between 12 and 14K for ours, saying that yours is standard with low miles My brother was saying the same thing about the white one down there too! Graeme
billyboy Posted June 21, 2008 Author Posted June 21, 2008 Its just i cant understand why Subaru didnt give the dash the "soft touch" that the last saloons had.Its a very hard decision as mine is mint despite the fact it lives outside in hail, rain _hite or snow and used in the same conditions. As for the rattle at the steering column ive got used to it now.If i change this will be my last new car unless of course Prodrive come out with a cracking upgrade which of course i will have to add to the car.lol.
gus the bus Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 unless of course Prodrive come out with a cracking upgrade which of course i will have to add to the car.lol. ....and I'm sure they will Billy infact huv they no already!!?
craig79 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Did the exact same thing on Saturday at John R Weir's in Perth. Had a go in their white STI, all I can say is that I was more than impressed with the overall package that the car has . It's never gonna have the presence that the blob / hawk eyes have albeit it can be improved by perhaps fitting p/d springs and a set of 18's ?? Was very impressed how planted it felt around corners, very confidence inspiring, wasn't too sure about the 6 spd gear box think it's just becasue I'm used to the typical 5 spd ?? Re. the interior I thought it was an improvment across the board seats were def comfier than mine. Gus; the guy i spoke to said the P/D version's not out as of yet but when it does it should be pushing 340~350 bhp, should be interesting !! All in all a very purposeful car and with a price not to be sniffed at, but it def is lacking in the 'subaru' qualities that all the previous versions come with. It might be the overall shape I don't know but If you're someone coming into the subaru fold from new and haven't experienced the previous incarnations you certainly won't know what you're missing and should just buy one - it's a good all rounder Craig.
BJM Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 i've now done 6500miles in my 08 sti, including a 3000 mile trip to the nurburgring and geneva motorshow in march when the car was 1 week old. Its softer than the last sti and, i think its easier to drive. gives good confidence in the twisty bits and i'm averaging about 31-32mpg. I've never reset the gallons per mile computer thing. Don't get my wrong very thirsty when you drive 'enthusatically'. The only problem I have is the lack of shiney bits to buy for the car in this country, I want exhaust, carbon bits, etc. I cant even find out the size of the bloody brake discs to get a nice drilled set.
