oletam
You guys up north. I'm thinking about going up to Inverness in a couple of weeks and then up to John o'Groats, Thurso and back. What's the availability of V power up there or would a full tank at Inverness see me round the loop? Can anyone tell me if I can only get normal unleaded, is it ok to use an octane booster as a temporary measure? Link to comment

The higher octane fuel is a measure used to prevent the risk of detonation/knocking. With the addition of octance booster you should be fine. Have a read at this: Click me. Link to comment
st3ph3n
There's a shell in Inverness, and the price wasn't too bad when I was in it 2 weeks ago. Compared to the one in Perth which was 5p more! Link to comment

Had a read but the car was mapped by AndyF for V power, and I'd prefer to stick with that. Did you not have a problem with 95 RON which cost you a lot of money or was it just a heavy right foot? superstar_tradesman
wouldn't put 95 ron any where near your car mate, best stick to V power or even Tesco 99 RON. Link to comment

My car is mapped by Andy.F for V Power as well, so I'd rather not touch 95 RON either, but that was not the issue. The issue was, "would it be ok if V Power was not available?" and I still stick by what I said. If all that's available is 95RON with OB, thne it should be fine. Obvioulsy its not the recommend but its not like its going to blow up into a million peices! And as also stated, you don't wnat to be hammering it just in case. Link to comment

Drivign a scooby up through the high highlands and not hammer it! What's the point! But to confirm eveyone elses comments.. Last V-power stop is inverness. YOu may find Super uleaded further up but I'd take a couple bottles of Octane booster just to be safe..I'd run mine on Super if I was forced to but it may grumble at 95ron in standard form... scooby222
update for you all, inverness is no longer the most northernly v power station- much to my delight the filling station just beside the house in beauly has just become a shell complete with v power!! ok its not much further north,10-15 miles, but its bigger and a hell of a lot easier to get to,certainly for me!! but other than that its octane booster or jerry cans im afraid- unless your incredibly light of foot theres no way your getting to john o groats and back on one tank-id be lucky to get there! oletam
Looks like it will make sense to get some Octane booster as a back up. I've never used it before. Is there any recommendations as to type and who sells it? Link to comment
Frank_STI
Prolong Octane booster is good I used to get it from Motac in stirling but you can get it online, inc ebay Link to comment
Joe G
You can get super unleaded just outside Thurso mate. Drove down from there the other week. Its not Vpower but its 97RON so better than putting 95RON in. I filled up in thurso and got to glasgow just as the petrol light came on!! That was taking it quite easy all the same!! ps, Its hard not to put the foot down on those roads Link to comment
