Dave K Posted April 10, 2005 Posted April 10, 2005 Jim, I would put the old bit of pipe back on between the charge cooler and inlet, as we could'nt confirm it was sealing at the bottom. Other than that all pipes are right, mind you finding that split pipe the ecu may need a reset if its been like that since L Day as its expecting to see it, am not sure. Other than that could be the exhasut gasket on downpipe leaking dude to its condition, but dont hink that would cause those isssues.
Cret Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Nah, not the exhaust gasket. if that was leaking it'd be noisy through it and would possibly cause it to spike more I think. Here's the funny bit. I just grumpily fitted my tasty new boost gauge and replaced the cacky boost hose in the car with the new stuff and removed the bodged in feed to the boost controller seeing as I'm not using it at the moment. Just come for a very brief run and it was boosting just fine!! Hitting over 1 bar, (couldn't see exactly how much as it wasn't sustained boost) but it drove like a dream! Just wondering now if there was a leak somewhere on the cheapass previous boost gauge install with all the horrible half-assed connections it had. I think much more testing is required but at least I know now that even if it goes funny again that the turbo seems bang on from initial impressions. That would rule out the intercooler hose too. Am fairly certain the intercooler pump has packed up though as the cooler was hot earlier on andf they're not supposed to get hot at all. Thanks again for your help today Dave - very much appreciated.
andy_bray Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Dave dude has worked hard on our scoobs this weekend .... Thanx M8....
Dave K Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 No worries fella's enjoy doing it anyway. Cant say no when fed bacon butties. Sweet, Jim you'll be runnin smooth with plenty of fluttering, popping, banging, farting and any other noise soon.
Cret Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Yes indeed matey. And the car makes some funny noises too! Sorry, I'll get me coat.....
Dave K Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Jim might be worth giving all the pipe work a good going over then. Between that, the split pipe and the outer sheath on that pipe under the charge cooler the rest may not be to far behind. As you said given the age of the pipework it is brittle.
andy_bray Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 << No worries fella's enjoy doing it anyway. Cant say no when fed bacon butties. Cret Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Morning dudes, gauge showed about 1.3bar in 1st & second this morning. Almost felt like the front wheels were about to lose traction for a second!

Cret Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 << Sweeeeeeeeeeet Jim Dude! Sounds good mate! Morning dudes! >> Yes indeed. Think my intercooler pump is shafted though, but considering how good it went this morning/last night I think it'll be ace when it's remapped and got the bigger injectors on!
Cret Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 << Sweet Jim, have things smoothed out though? >> Smoothed out? It's still got a dirty great flat spot off trundle speed if that's what you meant Dave?

paul n Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 << No Paul definately not Although fantastic cars I like the flat four sooooo much better dude. >> Phew, must admit, would love a play in one, but don't think I could be tempted away from the Scoob & would have to change my blue wardrobe lol Paul
Cret Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 There's just no beating the noise of a loud scoob. Well I've been doing more stuff tonight... Fitted new O2 sensor Put Legacy forum stickers on Started cutting the carbon fibre headunit/gauges panel (that stuff is like bloody kryptonite!!) Extended the LEDs from my knock sensor so the unit is no longer on the dash, just 5 LEDs subtley fitted in the dash Cleaned the IACV Stuck one of my chips in the ecu I went for a test run after doing all this and all I can say is with the chip installed - WOW!!!! It's not healthy though because under harsh acceleration & load/boost the knock link goes nuts so I'm going to be taking the chip out again. The power seemed pretty nuts though - I think if I feed it in slowly it behaves ok in terms of knock but if you do full throttle accelerating it knocks like crazy. Dunno what the max boost it reached with the chip in was, but I saw the needle reach at least 1.5 bar which is (x 14.5) = 21.75 PSI!!!!!!!!! I think this chip is going to be pulled straight back out again as whilst that kind of boost might be good fun I really don't think I'll have an engine for long if I keep that up!
andy_bray Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 There where not many peeps up there Nick dude on Sunday, To me they look to big , I once had a go in a mits vr4 it was OK and I owned a 2.0 mits galant ..
