billyboy Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Were all being pumped by the oil company's and the government.(Scuse the pun) its embarassing to have a scotsman for p.m and even worse one who is chancellor. They dont care and dont even seem to be thinking of after effects, food prices up etc etc.Im glad i didnt vote for them.
boris b Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Yeah mate... saw the writing on the wall at the start of the year, that's one of the reasons i sold the scoob.. It is getting beyond a joke... really need protests to start again... mind you the price of crude has doubled...
gus the bus Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Im glad i didnt vote for them. Nor me! ......and I deffo wouldnt vote for the OTHER lot either mind you. Remember 15.9% Mortgage rates!!!!!! Lets face it this is one f*cked up country One way ticket to Canada fur me next
cullenmin Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Jeez, I was peed off last night with 118.9p.......125p is just a bloody joke We should all go 100% methanol like the big boys
gus the bus Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 mind you the price of crude has doubled... Aye, but no other country in the world is ripped off to this extent!
col666 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) I was looking at buying a hawkeye STI a few weeks ago but had a wee think about it first, between paying over £400 a year to tax it (which will prob increase again) and having to put fuel in it at £1.20+ a litre its just not worth it. I will be buying another performance car at some point as my Cooper S isnt exactly a rocket ship! but I will be taking a lot of other things that I never used to into consideration before I buy. Whats even worse is I work on quite a small oil and Gas rig and its pulling in £10million a day profit!! Edited May 21, 2008 by Col 666

cullenmin Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Whats even worse is I work on quite a small oil and Gas rig and its pulling in £10million a day profit!! Good for the bonus then? which Mr brown will have 40%
Joe1989 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Yeah the price of the oil has went up - but why do the goverment want to add still 70% tax on to it - and i certinlly dont see where the moneys going.
euan_r Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 its come up a lot over last year and cant see rises stopping. it doesnt really bother me that much for the scooby, its more the knock on effects. being a farmer i use a lot of red diesel, combine going full chat all day can use 500litres. gone from 12p when i started to 67p. combined with fertiliser jumping 250% food prices will be rising significantly in the next few years. am sure there are loads of other effects, transport etc which mean the cost of living will rise more.

As the price of oil per barrell of crude rises, the government gains rise at the SAME rate. It therefore SUITS the government to have high oil prices becasue of the massive tax gains. If those to55ers at no. 10 really wanted to help, then why not slash the duty at the pumps? Its really that freaking simple! IF or when the price of crude comes down again, then increase duty at the pumps. Why can't they do that? We are jsut far too soft as a nation, we take everything lying down, Three cars could bring the M8 to a standstill by going slow side-by-side across the three lanes. Do that often enough with some banners and maybe people will start to listen. As for Gus' comment re voting for the other mob; that is right on in my opinion. No point on grumbling about Brown as the other half would be just as bad, who knows, perhaps even worse. I have never voted in my life and I never will for there is no one worthy of my vote. Freedom and democracy are con-words, plain and simple! Go to the oppressed Arab States (as the US see it) and ask how much they pay at the pumps. Libya... 15p per litre. Or take a trip to China (who are being blamed for the massive increase in demand) and its about 35p / per litre. Why not make them pay the same as us!!!!???? WTF is going on man!!!!! We are seeing through this, yet no one wants to do anything about it!!!! I HATE this country.. but at least we don't have hurricanes, typhoons, Tsunamis, earthquakes or cyclones... well not to any real extent. Perhaps counting blessing will help salve the pain... then again, perhaps not.
euan_r Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 i think you should enjoy it while you can. goverment is paying out more than it is raking in at the moment, so wont cut tax. welcome to the benefit state
spooks Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Its a complete joke, yes crude is higher but its the tax........ geez. If there were something that could be done now is the time to do it.
RS Grant Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I agree with everything that JW said there... I hate this country and if it wasnt for family being here, then I'd pack my bags and be offski and I'd take my gas-guzzling Scoob with me. Cheers, Grant

Spot on! Gus hate to disagree with you but with everything else this government has thrown at us a measly 15.9% mortgage rate seems like a much better deal!!! At least you knew where youi money went! Sadly the "other lot" are playing the same songs and it probably won't be like that any more.. They may stop the rises but theres no chance of them cutting them!!! As mentioned above, it's not just hte cost of running scoobies.. Don't have a mortgage myself (can't get one big enough) but I'd be happy to pay the high percentage compared to the paying through the nose for everythign today! So where are the strikes/blockades e.t.c PRice went up by wot 5p a coupel of years ago and all hell broke loose! Proice has gone up my near 30p the past year and what's happening.. Sod all! Something's not quite right.....

jcscoob Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Its all bollox, "STEELING" !!!!! I think its time for the ............. BIG PROTEST TO BE ANNOUNCED !!! Across all the forums/news papers etc. Ps, This country is all to pot.
thewelsho Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Spot on!a measly 15.9% mortgage rate I don't think yo uunderstand Scott, those rises back in the Tory days put people on the streets. Fuel rises wont have the sort of devastaing effect on us that nearly 16% on the mortgage rate did. If my rate went up to that, I woudln't have a house, simple as that. And back in the day also, it was the GOVERNMENT who set the mortgage rate, not the bank of England. That is why the current leaders gave it over to the BOE so as to prevent a repeat of those dreadful days.

My mortage payment per month now on a £130k mortage is LESS per month than it was on a £28k Mortage when the other lot were in But lets get back to the point this lot are ripping us off no end when it comes to fuel duty and its gonna affect us on more than just the fuel when as has been stated earlier so many things we have today are fuel dependent Edited May 21, 2008 by Gus the Bus
cullenmin Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 BIG PROTEST TO BE ANNOUNCED !!! I'm all in for cruising the M8 at rush hour time at 15 - 20 mph. Someone organise it and I will be there!

If you extrapolate from those figures, you'd be talking many thousands of £££ per month for your current mortgage (about the same as mine) at 15.9%!!! The oil companies must take soem of the blame too. Why would they want prices down? They make more money out of it too. Also, you don't see them helping to develop alternative fueling methods for fear of losses in the lack of oil demands. I can't belive that in this day and age, no one has come up with another way to make electricity or run cars etc. using alternative methods. Someone somewhere is putting the brakes on those developments if you ask me.
thewelsho Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 I'm all in for cruising the M8 at rush hour time at 15 - 20 mph.Someone organise it and I will be there! Just think, 6 cars could bring both carrageways to a standstill! We'd get on TV and everything! I wonder what would be the worst thing to happen to us if we did that. Just think if there is an emergency vehicle trying to pass and we blocked it. That wouldn't bode to well. I wonder if there is a sensible way to do this by actaully telling the police that we want to do it. That way they could police it and oirganise a way though for emergency vehicles on teh hard shoulder etc. I know its fraught with difficutlies, I'm jsut thinking out loud...
cullenmin Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Even blocking 2 lanes will cause mayhem and tailbacks
thewelsho Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Even blocking 2 lanes will cause mayhem and tailbacks Yeah. But blocking the entire M8 then having a spokesperson for the club there making a point about the fuel prices. If the police where in agreement the TV companies could be alerted to the plan and bingo...TV coverage the lot. Maybe some of our police members can give us guidance. Edited May 21, 2008 by TheWelsho
