Have to say a didn't like these cars when they were released but once a had seen one in the flesh, well it changed my mind. The rally car does look very mean incomparrision to the road going vesion.

Bonnet scoop serves no purpose when they use a front mount. There will be a kind of reverse scoop (a big hole really) in the bonnet though to allow air out once its gone through intercooler.

Anyway how can they ditch the gold livery even if i do like the new one.

yes i know about the bonnet scoop being pointless with a front mount, but it hasnt stopped them from fitting a bonnet scoop till now

kind of like loosing its trademark really :rotfl:

true. didn't they used to use the scoop for the oil cooler? must have moved it elsewhere for new car.

no that is the new swrt car fully stickered up. i quite like it actually but it needs the swoosh somewhere.

Announcement on SIDC

also explains the lack of a bonnet scoop... not enough STI's made yet so having to base this years on standard impreza for homologation reasons.

I quiet like it too, but not for a rally car, looks far too tame, which I suppose isnt surprising.

you fancy those decals on your car then john? you could be one of the first to do it!

LOL! Wouldn't look too bad along the bottom of the doors with the oval and stars at the front of the car, might do it! OR The oval and stars at the bottom of the car above the mud-flap with JW 340 going along the bottom of the car with some orange viper-style stripes, hehe! That would be simple but effective. B)

I just looked at the new-look SWRT site and its really cool. Lots of pics of the old cars right through to the current car. Their is a countdown image for the 2008 car to coincide with its official release in a week. The livery, if you could call it that, is very unimaginitive and unimpressive. It just looks like something the showroom staff stuck across the car. I mean it is ok, just that one would expect more. Dunno why they didn't just stick with the original decals with some modification to it.

Also, looking at the SWRT site, I noticed that driver names weren't displayed on the rear side windows until 1997. So there!

I didn't think you had to homologate WRC cars. You don't get a 2.0 turbo Focus road car for example. I thought it was only group N that got homologation. I think that's one of the reasons the Japs still use the 2.0 engine, instead of the 2.5 we have.

I like it, and I don't mind the new concept of the new colours. I think the scheme they have come up with is a wee bit unimaginative though.

WRC cars do need to go though the homologation process. However, the regs the are built to don't require an exact road going equivalent like in the case of group N or like the old group A cars. The WRC cars don’t need to adhere exactly to the road going equivalent, i.e. body tweaks, no 4x4 turbo versions etc.

So the new Impreza WRC can run without the scoop seen on the road cars.
