GJLATZ Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Hello all, Looking for your feedback. Am looking to changing the backbox on our 03 STI. Thought about a Prodrive backbox but we don't know if there will be much if any difference to the exhaust note. Just looking for a bit more of that THUMPING FLAT FOUR.... GJLATZ
RS Grant Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Hayward & Scott are always a good bet for 'off-the-shelf' stuff.. depending where you are, you might be better getting one made for your car?? That way you can have it looking and sounding exactly how you want. I went from Dundee to Meercat in Ayrshire for mine and cant recommend them enough. Cheers, Grant

mitchel Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 hi id go for the hayward&scott,or the janspeed scoobysport ones as they sound good,i had the scoobysport on mine, full decat, sounded good at tickover and nice burble on full chat, but iv now got a full 3"aps system and its the best iv heard
RS Grant Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 GJLATZ said: Thanks for the quick reply Grant. What's spec G? Spec-G started as an STi Spec-D, with a few mods that I spec'd myself, so its now a Spec-G(rant). Cheers, Grant

Cheers, Grant Had my WRX and my Legacy done at Meercat and like Grant cannot recommend them highly enough. You can't beat custom build to get exactly what you want and a bit of individuality too. cheers Kevan
mctwistuk Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 i would recomend meercat as well. They taylor make the system you want to whatever sound/loudness/look you want. Speak to FAI17 as i am sure he will help you get a good price.
scoobymark Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Afterburner vortex here too or Hayward & Scott, both will definately release the burble

This will seem like a stupid question, do all of these backboxes fit straight onto the standard system? We've had this car for approx 3 years but apart general servicing, polishing and a Green Filter never really looked onto mods Gazz
scoobyiain Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Yeah the afterburner will bolt straight on. I had it to begin with on my standard STi and it sounded awesome, even better once i went full de-cat. Little vid clip here -
Casper Spec D Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 A just got a Snakehead and 3" inch system done at Meercat and it was great because a have the spec D a told them that a wanted a little more noise but a drager style back box but for it to look like the prodrive back box So a could still keep the stealthness of the car.A got everything a asked for and the service was great.

Aye, that's what I'm looking for, more THUMP but the Prodrive look. Will get intouch with Meercat. Gaz

Scooby Knight Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) Speak to Dan@carnage-performance.com - they are Hayward & Scott dealers.... carnage performance Edited May 20, 2008 by Scooby Knight
RS Grant Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 (edited) Thats the look I went for with my Meercat 3" System... seems to be a bit of a trend with people wanting the Prodrive look!! Mine sounds pretty subtle down low, but higher up the revs its got a real roar to it.. which is exactly what I asked for. Cheers, Grant Edited May 20, 2008 by RS Grant

bigbev Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I had the Wr Sport back box and decat centre on my 98 Wr Sport. Needed to get it replaced as it was failing after being on the car for many moons. Went for the Hayward & Scott back box with matching stainless centre section. Great little burble on tick over and sounds much better on full chat than the Wr Sport one. A much more pronounced roar which was nice without being too loud at cruising speed photos are not the best though sorry
GJLATZ Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 Hi guys, Many thanks for all your feedback and photos (the photos you've all posted have helped as we can actually see what the BB's looklike on the cars). The Prodrive looke is the preferred option. I've already been intouch with Willie at Meercat. Many Thanks Gaz
