st3ph3n Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Drove a Porsche cayman earlier. Lovely looking car but got to say that it wasn't brilliant. Performance is good, but not earth shattering in a straight line. Manual gearbox was a touch fiddly. Very easy to get 4th instead of 2nd on a downshift. Seating position was dreadful if you're my height. Couldn't really get my knees under the wheel and leave enough room to steer well. Sounds good though when giving it stick. I'd have said a sorted WRX will have no issues keeping up with one or even getting away, especially when the going gets straight. Secondly - new BMW M3. Didn't drive one but there was one in front of me round the private race track that is luckily shaped identically to the raith interchange. It looks fantastic, and it appears to go well, but either the driver lacked the balls or again .... it's not as fast as the price seems to dictate.
jcscoob Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I can totally believe you a lot of them cars are a bit of a let down, i found myself in a few situations a couple with so called "supercars" and found them not so super, great but not good enough . PMSL

Boyakasha Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Cayman is a fantastic car, the handling is brilliant and the brakes are awesome, as you say a well sorted WRX would give it a go. We have a Boxster and I love driving it, however if I want to drive fast then I jump back in the STi
st3ph3n Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 I would have said my WRX at 290/290 would have been at the cayman's level. Certainly on the straights I'd have it beat, but I'd need the aid of a brick wall to stop quicker. An absolutely lovely car with 2 things wrong with it - could clearly have taken twice the power and coped incredibly well with it, but then it becomes a 911 beater and that's not on for Porsche. And secondly at 6'4" I'd need to remove my shins to make it driveable. Not a patch on the R8 I drove tail end of last year.
turbo2000wagon Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Yer, have followed a Cayenne (turbo) and it didn't seem that fast. Also compared it to a 911 (basic) and that didn't seem that much quicker either. My turbo 2000 is running somewhere around 350, lag isn't great but it's pretty quick, and i do have a GSXR1000 for comparison.
st3ph3n Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 Cayenne or a cayman? You don't get turbo caymans. The Cayenne is obviously the size of a small country, but does go pretty quick for such a big girl. But I wouldn't compare that against any form of sports saloon/coupe.
RS Grant Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Callum @ Checkpoint runs a Cayenne Turbo and he knocked in a 12-second 1/4 mile at Crail in it. Alright, around the bends its not going to be the best, but in a straight line they are really impressive. Cheers, Grant
