Non Turbo Impreza Owners

Hi,

Since I joined here it looks like I am in the minority. I had a 1998 2.0 Impreza Sport, and now have a MY03 GX Sport.

Am I alone in this "non-turbo" area?

Nope. A user who posts under the name "Empty Heid" Has a sport model :P Her car is a Blobeye wagon - can't remember the year though and it has a few mods done to it too, exhaust and lowered I thnk. So there you go, you're not alone.

Oh yeah, welcome! :D

I started with a 52 plate GX sport, looked the part but didn't have enough power.

Tosh32 that use to be on here alot had a tuned sport that was as quick as some turbos.

Sport or turbo it is still an Impreza. :D

Great - So I amnot alone ... LOL...

Not sure about mods, (although 17" rims going on this weekend).... :D I have to admit a scoop always looks great - but is there any reason NOT to put one on a Sport? - Ovviously has no function, but looks the part tho :P

Empty Heid that I mentioned earlier, is putting a scoop on hers for the look.

Personally I don't believe in putting scoops on Sports... but thats just a personal opinion, and nothing against folks who have... its not just a scoop that makes a car look good... as those pics show... :icon_butt:

Change the wheels and the spoiler, before doing anything else...you never know, you may be happy with just that difference... ;) and possibly the Exhaust... (Although isn't the Exhaust not a different bore from the turbo cars? ie: 2" instead of 2.5"?)

Exhaust is a different bore I had a Peco S/S cat-back exhaust for a turbo, Motorsportworld used the flange from the standard and welded it to the 2.5 inch pipe. Think I paid £60 for the exhaust and £40 for the adaption.

Had thought about a scoop but quite liked it without.

Yea - When the exhaust needs replacing it will get full stainless... My problem with the spoiler being, last time I got something painted in Aberdeenshire, the guy made a total a**e of the job. I don't really know who to get to do the painting now....

Typical - Knockhill event on the weekend I am on-call at work... :icon_butt:

I will post a pic or 2 when I get the 15" rims off and the 17"s fitted - hopefully this weekend (if they arrive)......

Well one guy that gets recommended quite a lot up here, is Protrim at Coney Hatch, near Stonehaven... theres certainly one member that will big him up. I also hear him talked about on EastsdieVW too...

There's also Kinghorn, but I believe that they are really expensive...?

And then some!! ;)

Having said that, they really do a sh#t hot job, had them do my CTR when some plank went up the side of it, had to replace rear 3/4 panel which was a cut out and reweld job due to 3 door design and sort the drivers door - honestly you would never know it had been in an accident! :icon_butt:

I used to work next door to them and every single day there was a lot of high end motors sat there - Porsches, Astons, Ferraris, some seriously stunning stuff! B)

Nothing wrong with Sport... there was a guy on SN back in the day, John Felstead, pretty sure he took a Sport around The 'Ring back in the day with some Whiteline Kit fitted and really impressed a few people. It was a fair old while ago, but think that there was a video kicking about of it too.

If it was me, I'd put some sort of exhaust on it to open it up a bit (sound more than power I mean), then concentrate on handling/braking mods and if/when you progress from Sport to Turbo then you might be able to carry over some of the handling stuff to sharpen up the handling of the new car. :icon_butt:

Will do exhaust when its needed, BUT - Heres a silly one ........ If I fit a "replica scoop" for looks. Should I open a hole in the bonnet? or just do something with the opening etc..... eg keep bonnet sealed - or whatever......

Any tips, or info on past mistakes made - things to do - not do.... all advice very welcome :icon_butt:

My advice would be to try and source a genuine Turbo (WRX or STi) bonnet with vent already attached... as even if you bought a scoop, cut a hole in your bonnet and secured it down, it may still look a bit 'diy' once finished. A turbo model will be a straight swap with your bonnet, and means you can stick the standard one back on when you come to sell........ or get bored of the bonnet scoop. :icon_butt:

Empty Heed knows of a stick-on type that you can buy which requires no need for a hole to be made in your bonnet.
