The Budget And The Scooby.

Just been doing some research. Numbers on the 08 models suggest the WRX and the STI both fall below the 255 g per km mark, which means they'll avoid this new tax hike. Can't get a definite on the earlier models, but think they're also below that. It's not by more than a bawhair though, so if they lower that number next year by even 10 or 15g we'll be screwed!

Petrol duty increase been postponed a few months too. But OPEC are still pumping us (pardon the pun) something awful anyway. What's another 2p in the equation when we're already paying so much.

Stephen. is it not true to say that only new cars would be subject to any new emmision thresholds in similiar fashion to what has gone before? That is, only cars registered after March 08 where stuck in Band F?

I despise the government (and pretenders to the throne), they are a shower of usless muppets. I listen regularly to Radio 5 Live and Priministers Questions. You ought to hear this to belive it; its like a school-yard slagging match between the two party leaders, then all the brainless shi7faces on the benches booing and cat-calling. To think that we entrust that shower of useless lumps to run our affairs, is befond belief. Their words are nothing more the filthy lies, the lot of them ought to be shot where they sit. Utterly useless.

don't think so, just read the budget report and from next year all cars after 2001 are relisted and you've guessed it, scoobs go from f to anything upto m!

for example

Glad to see you sitting on the fence about that one then, lol.

Never in a million years... they are a bigger and more useless bag of sh173 than the rest of them. In fact, it was they who gave the current crop of useless dimwits the idea of a green-tax on cars.

Going by that chart, current Band F cars will go from £400 per year to £455. A rise of £55 over three years isn't too bad given the current madness. There are those in government and other circles who are touting road-taxes of £2000. Can you imagine that? Even that aside, I can't belive the motorist is taking this lying down, I really can't! Some sh17Wit was on the radio today saying that the cost of motoring has gone DOWN. Eh????

group f is "only" £210 now but will be £415 or £440 next year.

Only for cars registered after 1st march 2001, hence classics are going to be the better buy.

This is plucking Ludicrous, I'm movin to australia if they hike classic tax up

Yeah. sorry, you're right. I'm in Band G (I keep thinking that Band F is the highest!) which is currently £400, that is what I will be paying in a few months. The reclassification will move my car and others in the same band to a Band M which will cost £455. Still only a rise of 55 notes over three years, again, not too bad. The sore part about it is getting stung for £950 in the first year. Surely the dealer will pick that up as an incentive, so really its a waste of time!

Sorry my friend, I don't see why Classics shoul be exempt! All for one and one for all! Oz does sound nice though :P

That chart states it at the top, unless there is another chart for cars registered before that date!?!

No matter what, we'll all get screwed, whilst low life and immigrants get it all handed to them!

The whole Road Tax thing is a bag o sh1rte IMHO.

Not many of us do high mileage in our Scoobs but we are classed up beside the 'school run' 4x4's for Road Tax. There are loads of 'mondeo men' doing 60K+ miles per year and they (ok - their companies) won't be paying the higher band road tax - that's just not fair. Does not take a genius to work out who contributes the most C02 emmissions.

Until the big car using Countries - USA, China (getting there) take the same type of action, the UK's efforts are gonna be like fartin against the wind.

This is one argument for a road usage / mileage type charge INSTEAD of road tax.

We also need a 'run over a green campaigner day' - bloody do gooding, veggie eating, tweed jacket wearing, peely wally gits!!! No offence to run of the mill veggies or council employees who wear tweed jackets as part of the expected council look, intended

Another thing while I'm on the soap box: road tax is supposed to fund road repairs & maintenance, my ar$e. I've seen forest tracks after the Scottish Rally has been through them for a Rally stage in better condition than some roads in Stirlingshire & the Glasgow area.

We just keep getting screwed in this Country!!!!!

was going to post something similar, we are already taxed heavely on fuel so no brainer, the less efficient your car is the more fuel you use and the more tax you pay. Road tax does not take into consideration your fuel emissions over a year as it is mileage dependent.

Of course it is, but any old excuse to shaft people out of their hard-earned dollars - Muppets!

Personally I think it's just a cunning way to make the new hatchback Impreza look more attractive :P

TBH, the sooner they get shot of road tax and put it onto the fuel so it actually affects those that use the car the most often the better, but then why would they bother when they can do that *and* charge for road tax as well.

If they up the tax on classics, i'll be £920 to run the 2 scoobs add £310 for the wifes car and i'm looking at £1220.

Couple of years ago I would have been around £600 for 3 cars, banks and building societies would get invest if they raised their charges that much.

Just remembered my car although a 1997 was registered in 2008 as imported so i am screwed. Think i'll be looking at a towbar and a trailer for the track car.

Just checked my V5 and no CO2 figure detailed. Can they assume a figure and tax me?
