mctwistuk Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 just put £50 worth of v power into the car and couldn't squeeze any more in yet when i turned the engine on the petrol gauge is only showing less than half a tank. Can anyone suggest what might be the cause? What is the mechanism for the petrol gauge? Thanks for any help chris
StrikE Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Yeah i know the problem................. you only get about 13.6 litres for £50 now Seriously i am no help sorry
colin_ross Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 You don't run methanol do you? It's been known to play havock with fuel gauges.
nanaki Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 dont believe he does on this car...... yet anyway (just wait to see if peter gets his way)
mctwistuk Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 no methanol just the standard 56 plate STI i have.
p1ggm Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 sounds like sender unit in the tank? might be faulty, you need to bridge the connections for it, see if the gauge goes to full, if it does its the unit, but if its a 56 plate i would be going right back to subaru for warranty
mctwistuk Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 no idea how to do that. will wait and see what happens on the next fill up.
P1Andy Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Same happened to me. People said the sender might be stuck so i took the car out for a good thrash and that seemd to sort the problem out for me.
mctwistuk Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 took the car out for a spin this morning to asda and was sitting at half a tank on the way there and then was just under the full mark on the way back. Looks like i will have to rely on getting about 200 miles before i need to fill up to be on the safe side.
p1ggm Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 is it maybe possible to reset the dash to make sure its not that? you could do it on the new minis, i seen the guy do it after i fitted a few parts to it, it ran thru a full check of all the electrics and checks all the gauges are working right?

It has happened on mines too......just the car a few quick left right movement and that sorted it out.. I think its the float(level sender in the fuel tank) is stuck but easy to fix.
