T1s Or T1r?

I know tyres are discussed a lot but i'm looking for a full set of 4 now so really want to get the right ones!

I am pretty sure i remember Frank C saying he prefered the T1S to the T1R - is that the general opinion? (if so great as the T1S is much cheaper!)

cheers,

I had the T1R's on my last car and i wasn't too impressed with them tbh. I've heard folk saying the T1's are softer and the R's wear better but like everything..when you gain something , you loose something elsewhere.

Depends what your going to use them for..?

T1-S were great tyres but wore out pretty quickly on my MY98 Wagon.. and I bought a set of Rota wheels for my white MY99 4dr that came with T1-R fitted and was a bit sceptical as I'd not heard great things about them...... and took the car on one of our runs in the country which really tested them out, and they really surprised me, but that could have been cause my expectations were so low?

To be honest, I'm a Goodyear Eagle F1 guy and wont be changing anytime soon.. however, when supply dries up of the current GSD3 F1's, I'll be trying the new F1 Assimetric design as its meant to be really good too.

Cheers,

Cheers chaps. The summer wheels are desperately in need of new tyres. the winter wheels are on at the moment, Nokian WR but the Bridgestones that were on for summer wore quite quick so looking for a good quality replacement. As i drive every day i need a good wearing tyre that is good in the wet and importantly takes a backroad blast in its stride so kwikfit plastic specials are right out!

I have had both on my MY99 classic turbo and would have to agree with COLZO.

I didn't really notice much difference in grip between the two, but didn't have it long enough to wear out the T1Rs.

I would say that neither were as good as Bridgestone SO2s, which I found to be excellent, but are no longer available.

I have also been looking at the best options for new tyres. Not needing them yet just looking ahead. Also looking at new alloys for the future so have been waying up various options.

With regards to the Toyo's, T1-S and T1-R. Don't take my word for it as I am quite new to the Scooby scene and have no experience of either but through my research I was coming to the opinion that the T1-R is the better choice.

I am lead to believe that Toyo took the T1-S tyre and improved it to come up with the T1-R.

Don't know how you plan to buy your new tyres but I will show you the cheepest way that I have found so far if I were to go for new T1-R tyres and I live in Glenrothes Fife.

If you have a better way, please enlighten me! :barf:

Best option for Toyo Proxes T1-R 225/45 R17

Buy online through Black Circle applying SIDC discount (I think this is 5%, to be confirmed).

Go for the full fitting option (valves, balancing, fitting and disposal of old tyres included).

The website will tell you where your closest Black Circle approved tyre station is.

Turn up when tyres arrive and get them fitted.

£341.16

Best option for Toyo Proxes T1-R 225/40 R18

Buy online through Camskill (no SIDC discount available that I am aware of).

Go for the tyres delivered only option.

Take to Tyre Shop Auto Centre and have them fit the tyres.

£382.00

Examples of prices for fitting service only:

Tyre Shop Auto Centre - £40 for fully fitting 4 tyres onto 17" alloys.

Tyre Shop Auto Centre - £48 for fully fitting 4 tyres onto 18" alloys.

Kwik Fit - £60 for fully fitting 4 tyres onto any alloys.

As you can see Kwik Fit are more expensive, I actually got them to quote me for supplying and fitting 4 of each size of T1-R and this is what they told me:

17" - £520.00

18" - £636.00 :dunce::angry::P

I would also suggest that you try Ronnie of Wheels Around (who does the tyres at SIDC track days).

He has supplied me with 16" T1Ss and T1Rs at very competitive prices in the past.

He is based in Auchterarder and his mobile no. is 07711 577148.

That was kind of wher ei was coming form. Apparently the thicker walls are good for the car.

Camskill have T1-S 215/45/R17 for £62 a corner though so seems like a real bargain. My 'summer wheels' are down in yorkshire though because we don't have a garage and the mrs didn't think they should be part of the front room furniture! However we know a man with a garage so fitting ins't an issue.

Seems like T1-R is winning out at the moment though.

I always suffered excessive outside edge wear with T1-s, moved to T1-r and they have been great. No complaints and I'm on my second set now.

Had no problems with the T1r either, I'm on my second set too but the first set lasted over 2 years, think we paid approx. £80-90 each including fitting

Grand - so as it is a WRX the tyres on the now are 215 should i be fitting 225? I'm guessing not but best to check!

Yes mate, you should be fitting the 215's. Thats the standard fit for the WRX standard alloys. :o

I only made a refference to the 225's in my post above because I currently have after market alloys fitted with 225's on. :rotfl:

Got 235/45/17 T1r on the Jdm Sti there good and 05 Jdm Sti's were fitted 235/45/17 tyres

Toyo T1-R's for me on the Impreza - great tyres.

Current car has Dunlop SP Sport MAXX, which though expensive, are really good.

It's T1Rs that are on the 19's I have fitted to my car and they seem okay tyres, as someone else mentioned I don't think that they are as good as S02s or even S03s but they are an okay all weather tyre.
