thewelsho Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Im thinking about sticking those silver grilles on the front of my car (Hawkeye). This would include replacing the standard black ones at the top between the headlights and also installing the lower one below the number plate. Any idea of a reputable supplier. Thanks J
andy Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I looked into this and searched Forums as I'd like them on my hawkeye. The Prodrive ones seem to be the bollocks in terms of looks, but bloody expensive. Others do black/darker ones or ones with a less-fine mesh finish, but not as nice as the Prodrive steel finish, IMO. I did see somebody suggest a DIY job and going to B&Q for chicken wire.
craig_harey Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 got my prodrive ones from eden subaru and took advantage of the 15% discount and fitted my self have to drill bumper bit awkward but got there in end

iainc Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I fitted the lower one on my hawkeye from Revolution, IMO it's pretty close in looks to the original top one. Wasn't overly expensive either IIRC.
oobster Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Fairly sure the part number you need is SACC2616 and it's £275inc VAT.
gus the bus Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 (edited) £275inc VAT. for a bit of mesh what a fookin rip off! I'd try www.revolution.eu.com Edited December 27, 2007 by Gus the Bus
oobster Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 (edited) Aye it is a rip-off for a couple of bits of mesh, I got S&S to fit the blobeye version onto mine before I got the car and I think they charged me something like £220. I think the one on Revolution is the black plastic-looking grille, and it sits quite far inside the gap - not flush with the bumper like the prodrive ones. They are £109.99 John, although they do them in silver for an extra £20 (and they are an extra 2-3 weeks) Edited December 27, 2007 by oobster

I prefer the look of it sitting further back, the ones flush with the front of the bumper look odd to me. Funny thing is that the Spec D's come with a grill (as the revolution one) as std whereas the std STi doesn't have anything.
thefastone Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Yeah but the Prodrive silver ones look the 'nuts... Dunno how good they'd look on your car though John... And yeah I seem to remember being involved in the disscussion about chicken wire in the grille, cant remember, but theres someone in this forum that has done it, and it dont look bad untill you get really up close...
thewelsho Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 I defo prefer the silver ones and the ones that sit forward. No point in them being black and sitting back like that, you'd hardly notice them. I have seen them on a blue Hawkeye and they look excellent, though not as good as the black car I have to say. Thanks for the input. I tried Revolution, but they don't do the upper grilles, just the lower, so it wouldn't match up to well. I guess it has to be the Prodrive ones or nothing!
the_ex_leper Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 (edited) oh thats a cool looking rb320 lol# ive had all the grills apart for cleaning if you got mesh for the uppers they are easy changed Edited December 27, 2007 by the_ex_leper
Ian Coulter Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I have had the lower Revolution one on my car for about a year now. It is metal and powder coated with a black finish but has rusted quite badly. I called them and sent photos and they have provided a replacement under warranty. I have just used a whole spray can of clear lacquer to try to stop this one going rusty. The black Subaru spec D one is actually plastic and was £150 a year ago. Has anyone else had this problem with the Revolution one? Ian
garytitley Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 iv'e got a set of the prodrive grills on order for my blobeye, expensive i know but its the only one to have imo.
thefastone Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Yeah Kenn, I reckon whoever owns that car is a lucky barsteward!

Ian I've not yet but then it's only been on the car a couple of months at most. Will try and remember and check it over closely next time the car gets washed (which doesn't happen often )
colzo Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I always wanted the Prodrive Grills for my Blobeye but drilling holes in the bumper scares me! People have told me it no probs to fit and comes with a template so will get one in the Spring if I don`t bottle it!!!
jimser Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 heres a guy selling a set of prodrive grilles for £200 http://bbs.scoobynet.com/private-sale-gene...keye-parts.html
nkwrx Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Hi John, Prodrive are unjustifiably expensive but they are top quality and very well made. It's the only way to go with the Hawkeye front I think. Trasnsforms the front of the car imho.
thefastone Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 There you go, now that I've seen it, I have to say get the Prodrive grilles on your car John!!!!
craig_harey Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 yes prodrive one s are very good qaulity and easy to fit
