Ian Coulter Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Looking to replace my wiper blades and wondered if anyone has tried either the PIAA Super Silicone ones or the new style "flat" blades. The PIAAs seem to come in at about £40 and the "flat" ones at about £25 as against £15 for the "normal" ones in Halfords. Any comments from personal experience would be very much appreciated? Thanks in advance, Ian
oobster Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I've had the PIAA ones on my car for about a year now, they are still clearing the screen prefectly and no annoying squeaks or judders.
4Hero Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 don't go near halfrauds for blades, I just got a set of bosch ones, and they are the wrong size (even though the guys and the book says the are correct). Muppets.
HairyDJ Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Been using the silicone for the last year or so on my 3 year old wagon. size 12 & size 6 for the front - size 4 were the right length for the rear, but couldn't get an adapter to make them fit, so still running on normal Subaru blades at the rear. May go for the option of the aero spoiler for extra downforce when i buy this time. I'm needing to replace the front blades soon, but like them enough to stay with PIAA. There are times that they seem to be worse - usually when a bit of bird muck or similar lands & seems to get smeared in a lot worse than traditional blades did. I've never been too sure what effect a strong solution of screen wash does to the coating / blades either - there were times that they seemed happier to get clean water instead. The blurb does make quite a point of keeping your windscreen very clean ... Cheers, David
colzo Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I have the AeroBlades from Subaru (made by Bocsh). 10/10 IMO, look good too. http://imwww.imgroup.co.uk/IMGGB/WWW/Subar...47?Opendocument
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 PIAA and Rain - X for me is a great combination. In a country where it rains so often why try and save dough on something so crucial !
thefastone Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 now ive never seen the Aeroblades before, you just get them from the stealers? I was going to go out and get a set of the PIAA ones... I hear they are worth their money... I also have rainex washer additive, but ive still got to put it in...
colzo Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I think the AeroBlades are for the Impreza 2001 onwards - best to check.

Muppets. Yup, I got a set from there out of necessity more than anything else as the rubber came off one of my blades and needed to get a replacement fast. The box said it would fit the car but it just didn't seem to, and they were generally pretty useless. I took them back. Currently got a £2 set out of Tesco on, and they do the job perfectly!
Ian Coulter Posted December 18, 2007 Author Posted December 18, 2007 Thanks for your varied responses. I have just ordered a set of PIAA Super Silicone ones from Speeding.co.uk Unfortunately, Sccobyparts & Scoobyworld don't seem to stock the same sizes as the OE ones on my car (22"/17"). I think they are just stocking the sizes for classics (my old car used 21"/18") and are making them do for new ages too. I hope that these turn out to be as good as you guys say at just under £39 (delivered) for the pair! Thanks again, Ian

karps Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 i sell aero blades in work for all shapes of impreza, they are called bosch aerotwin retrofit, averageing about 15-20 quid a set, imho the only thing to let them down is that they dont last years. other than that top marks from me. chrissy
karps Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 oh and i ment to add! DONT GO TO HALFORDS! way over priced and you dont get quality for your money, pm me if you all need anything n i can get you all good discounted deals chrissy
t3hWIT Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I've had the "Flat style" Bosch Icon (in the US) wiper blades on my Impreza for a year without streaking, while a coworker of mine has a set on his Audi for two years and counting. I've never tried the PIAA blades, but I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed with the Bosch "flat" blades.
stevie mc Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) I put the aero flat blades on my sti8 ...... what a difference!!! They seem to follow the contour of the windscreen better and don't skip there way up the screen at high speed better still try this stuff and you won't need wipers http://www.rainracer.com Edited December 19, 2007 by stevie mc
thefastone Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 just asked at T&C about the aero blades when I was in picking up the bikes for the hospital, £30-odd quid!!! so really only just short of the price of the PIAA numbers...
