RA Dunk Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Still nae idea lads.I've checked the hoses and can't see sh!t. Well nothing obvious anyway. But then I've nae idea what I'm looking at tbh. lolol we have so much in common
colin_ross Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Took the car out of the garage tonight and put £20 worth of fuel in it after it lying for a week and everything seemed ok.Drove it up the road for 2 or 3 miles and still ok, turned on to the slip road to the A1 and when lightly excelerating between 3rd and 4th it was like I hit a flat spot for a split second and then it wouldn't boost or rev when in gear. Check your receipt, you didn't put diesel in did you? Have you checked the actuator on the turbo isn't jammed open? An ecu reset should show up any sensor faults that would put the car into limp mode and any mechanical faults normally have secondary symptoms i.e. smoke, rough idle, noise, mis fires.

Would it not smoke like fook if I put diesel in it Col ? I'm used to putting diesel in the van right enough but surely I've not put it in the scoob..how would I fix that and what long term problems would there be. Actuator on the turbo..where is that and what does it look like
colin_ross Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) There is a bar that run over the top of the turbo from the hot side to the cold, it opens the actuator to release excess pressure. If it became jammed in the open position (not common but possible) it would not allow the car to make any boost. It should be failry stiff but you should be able to move it back and forward a little. Edited to add I was only joking about the diesel. It would be a ruff as wheat-a-bix toilet paper. Edited January 6, 2008 by Playsatan2

boris b Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Hope you get it sorted Frank... I'm glad it's not just me who doesn't really know what they're looking for under the bonnet... Just as well there's decent folk on here who know their stuff....
frank c Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) It's just a pity there isn't any decent garages around here to trust with my scoob Kit. I don't mind trying to fix some things on the car but trouble shooting is like a Giraffes ar$e to me. Edited January 6, 2008 by Frank C
frank c Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 Aye..new maf fitted. Gives a shout if you need the part number, I've still got the old one in the garage.
frank c Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 New maf fitted Dis-connected the battery Done fault code check --- nothing found Had a look at the pipe work---couldn't find anything obvious I would put it in a garage but I don't know who to trust locally.
frank c Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 so how is it now Frank? Just the same as it was 3/4 weeks ago Peter . Sadly. I hope everything goes ok with yours
euan_r Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 have you got boost gauge frank? any boost at all?
euan_r Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 with the exhaust note changing i was thinking cracked headers but you would still have some boost. as others have said i would take off intercooler and examine hoses very carefully along with boost control pipes. perhaps new sensor wasnt good either, not unknown. ive blocked a turbo before and didnt get any smoke as seals were ok hopefully it wont be this.
frank c Posted January 6, 2008 Author Posted January 6, 2008 Cheers Euan. I had thought about the headers but the list of things that "could" be wrong with it is getting bigger the more I look into it. I'll need to put it into a garage and see what they come up with. I'm no mechanic so if it's not staring me in the face, I'm never going to find the fault. It's probably something easy to fix, it's just that I can't find it.
AlanG Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) If you've no boost at all Frank, your wastegate is open all the time. Check the actuator linkage. Probably the circlip has pinged off and the arm's came off the actuator. This would also give that drone you mentioned from the exhaust Edited January 6, 2008 by AlanG
frank c Posted January 7, 2008 Author Posted January 7, 2008 Thanks Alan I'll check it over the weekend and let you know. cheers

boris b Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Alan.... What a guy Glad you got it sorted mate.
frank c Posted January 10, 2008 Author Posted January 10, 2008 Aye, your no joking Gus.. had me well stumped I'm just glad i didn't have the time to strip it all down to find................................nothing. The car hasn't been driven for about 4 weeks now, feels quite quick Now all I've got to decide is... do i strip it of all the goodies or sell it as is ..hmmm.
