andy Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Count me in for this. I really fancied being part of this, but had concerns that whilst I'd contributed to Central and Glasgow I hadn't contributed financially anything to my home town. Dale has put my mind at rest on that front though and I'll be making the journey up to take part in an EXCELLENT job by the northern contingent on their first attempt. Be good to meet you guys and share a few "Fit likes?" instead of just being names on a screen. However, it only takes place if we can play on the big chutes in the Duthie Park while we wait for others to arrive. Expect photos!
thefastone Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 Excelent! See you on Saturday! Like I say the more the merrier! Saturday is all about putting on the show for the kids, lets make it a good one for their sakes!
thefastone Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 Well after a fair bit of buggerin about with me Scanner, as I had to hunt down different drivers to run on Vista, I finally managed to scan and stitch the article from last night's Evening Express... so for anyone thats not seen it... with a link to a bigger version of it (easier to read...) In this Handy to use *clicky* link!
micra_wrc Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 reading that article made me then when it mentions Aberdeen Scoobies. All the best for Saturday and good on you guys for making this happen. Is anyone else apart from Santa dressing up? Midland Scoobies managed to book The Stig for the day!
thefastone Posted December 21, 2007 Author Posted December 21, 2007 Well We cant say for sure, but we think that we might have a "special guest" perhaps 2...
thefastone Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 FINNAL REMINDER FOLKS!!!!!!!!! TODAY 11AM DUTHIE PARK BE THERE!!!!
johns Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I'll be there, but can't promise the car will be very clean - frost hasn't lifted here for days....
frank c Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Well Done Aberdeen Scoobies!! . Fantastic effort. Have a good one today and we'll look forward to the pics. Nice write up in the local rag aswell.
Joe G Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Saw all you guys passing the BP petrol station just off market street!! Was wanting to tag along but had to work at 12 on the northlink ferry!! Hope the day goes well and keep up the good work!!
thefastone Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 Well, thats Aberdeen Scoobies Santa Cruise over for this year! And yeah, Was all more than worth it... The day started just before 11am, when after a call from Ari (Kloon) for a few volunteers to load some booty into their cars from the Secrect bunker - nearly everyone turned up! then onto the meeting point at the Duthie park, where the cars were dressed, and not cleaned - Seems car washes are hard to come by these days... Also, we were joined by Andy, who made the journey up this morning, despite the tinsel drought, and who I think is going to be heading home tonight also...? Thanks for making the journey mate! think the total was something like 18 imprezas (and an Audi) turned up for the event... Once everyone was done milling about, a few photo's taken, so on and so forth, we rolled... with a help from some friends, we bloked the road off and piled out of the park as one noisey mob! only to get split up as soon as we hit the first junction... and then the next junction - rinse repeat... the run though town might also have been more effective if aberdeen's traffic light system was not geared towards breaking up mass meetings... but the run down Union Street went otherwise well, we rolled revved and honked our horns all the way down, and all the way to the hospital for that matter, where we arrived, and Santa ran away... were not really sure where Simmie was going, but he did Have Santa in the car with him, he did however come back so all was not lost... Faced with the next dilema, parking... it was decided that we would put the cars just anywhere, as it seems, no one thought about where to put 20 imprezas once we got there... It was messy, but we all got stopped, and the ambulance route was not blocked! Que photos galore, and few happy kids a lot of happy Hospital staff, we ended up in the kiddies Play area where we handed over the 2 nintendo Wiis amongst the other stuff, and also got one of them set up already - although, they are not letting anyone play till they can secure the 2 new ones! I know JohnS got some good pics, and I think that Arthur (mrToad might have too) I myself only really got photo's of the meet beforehand, at the Duthie park, as once again, I thought better than to take my camera in again, theres only so many cameras you can have in the one place! But I'll post a few of my pics here.... Link to all these photos in this Easy to use *CLICKY* Link!
kloon Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 A day that will live with me forever, just fantastic. Thank you to everyone who contributed over the past year in whatever way, no matter how small. Seeing the kids at the hospital brought home exactly what we do this for and makes us doubly determined to make next years even bigger. As for the dirty cars, can't speak for anyone else but every car wash I tried this morning was frozen !
thefastone Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 Yeah, mines was minging, but alas, i just lived with it!
johns Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Great day out and it was certainly worth all the effort. My car was dirty, but just couldn't get it cleaned anywhere and impossible at home with it being minus 3! I've uploaded my photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnsidc/sets...57603523005131/ Some good ones, and some awful ones, but lots to look at! John
Dougie C Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Well Done everyone glad the day went well for you all up there!!! Dougie C
thefastone Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 Some Nice pics there John, I've said it before, but I like a lot of your protrait shots... they are very nice!
andy Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Not long home. Gents, it was an honour and a privilege to take part in your event. Apart from replacing the stolen Wii AND giving them another one, the mountain of other gifts is not done justice by any photo. Given that this was your first year at this you should, rightly, be very proud of yourselves. God knows what you're going to be capable of next year now you've got the bit between your teeth, but it might be advisable to book Shore Porters now! :biggrinsanta: My photos are here - clicky linky Apologies to all who got the little guided tour of Berryden Road. I was left at the head of the queue at the top of George Street, jumped out at the lights and shouted to Arthur which way? He said left so I went left! (Might actually have gone left anyway - there's only so many times you can listen to Shakin' Stevens :kerstsmiley:) Soon realised we were on the wrong track, but a quick phone call to Dale got us back on the right route again (though he did panic when I got my George Street and King Street muddled and said we'd just turned onto King Street - well I did leave Aberdeen 18 years ago :biggrinsanta: . Thank God we swapped phone numbers! Again - well done loons (and quines). :rudolph:
kloon Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) Andy, superb pics and thanks very very much for coming up, HOWEVER i'm ashamed to say that despite the fact you spent the whole day with us, I didn't introduce myself !! Edited December 22, 2007 by kloon
andy Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Andy, superb pics and thanks very very much for coming up, HOWEVER i'm ashamed to say that despite the fact you spent the whole day with us, I didn't introduce myself !! That works both ways. I'd have liked to join you guys for something to eat, but I knew the press were going to be there and my Mum gets the P&J daily. If she saw me in it and I hadn't dropped in past my life wouldn't be worth living! I'd pre-arranged to go to my folks for lunch before heading back down the road. I'm sure there will be other opportunities though. I wanted to go to your casino night, but had to miss it this year because I was at a Trials event overseas, however I get the feeling you might have some more events next year I might be able to make I'll also sign up to the AS Forums and keep an eye on the Aberdeen scene here as if you guys do runs and I could tie that in with a visit to my folks it gives me a better reason to get off my ass and head up. I do miss Aberdeen. Big grin driving down Union Street today. :biggrinsanta:
kloon Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 (edited) You know the daft thing, I kept saying to myself, "there's a bloke with an SIDC jumper on taking pics, wonder who he is" ? You are more than welcome to join us on our runs/events anytime, as is anyone from just about anywhere ! Well except the Evo mob of course Aye Union Street was a bitty special, the looks on the shoppers faces was a picture in itself and how satisfying was it to block the bus lane and force the feckers to use the rest of road for a change :biggrinsanta: Edited December 22, 2007 by kloon
RA Dunk Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Big grin driving down Union Street today. :biggrinsanta: window down with the music full up was it? good job guys wish i could have made it but you know the score :biggrinsanta: , hopefully ill manage another xmas @ home before i retire
simon_mcwilliam Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Sorry I never introduced myself either, spent ages at the park putting my lights and decorations on then we left for the run. Sorry m8
andy Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 This is how my day went before meeting up with the guys. I've put it as an entry on my Blog rather then a reply here as it's more relevant to the online diary thing. It is kind of amusing and 100% true - Tinseltown In The Frost
the blue dragon Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 yep. well done guys, a fantastic effort by all concerned and good to see a large turnout on the day. You have done yourselves, and scottish scoobies well and truly PROUD ( and you should all be too !) Iain
