hey guys, is it me or do stupid little neds in pugget 306 16 valve buckets or golf mk2 gti's, in fact anythin with a bloody lawnmower engine try to prove themselves against a scooby?????

i drive my car every day to work and not ONE day goes by without some t**t trying to push me to race then boot the tits out of their car to try and pass me.

I have resisted the temptation many times but i'm gettin a bit pissed off with it and end up being as stupid as them and leaving them for dead, which proves nothing!!!

Bar running the ****s off the road which is insane, what the hell they trying to prove?

i'm beginning to have issues with these little ass holes and i feel that these guys think they have rocket ships and need a boot up the botty!!

i've had performance cars all my driving days and never had this kinda bull! :)

what's your thoughts?

IMO, you'll always get people like this in any performance car, maybe you've just been lucky up until now with them not plaguing you before the scoob?

I know that while I may partake in the odd "acceleration challenge", I rarely push myself or the car further than I feel is safe, hell, an Astramax van can do about 120mph IIRC so speed means FA, even round twisties. While the scoob can handle being pushed well round corners, etc if it's not clear I still like to leave enough room to be able to brake if there is an immoveable object in the road, plus I've always driven with the state of mind that I should expect to meet myself coming the other way, in other words, whatever speed you are willing to take a corner at, cutting corners or whatever, expect someone coming the other way to be doing the same (or worse).

Honestly don't care if someone in another car is quicker along a road than I am, as long as I'm not being held up by them I'm not overly bothered B)

Yup... as daft as it sounds someone in a crap car can make a fool of you if it's a road you don't know well. The 94 wagon I had was pretty damn quick when the TD05 was on boost, but on a back road I'd not been on before, I was pretty humiliated by a Mk11 Fiesta (non XR model as well). I have no idea what he had under the bonnet but the fact he knew what speed he could go round the bends at helped a lot, I was going into bends that looked quick only to find them tightening up massively (thanks to the AP brakes not an issue), but it left me well off boost so in the end I can expect that he went back to his mates claiming that scoobs weren't as quick as everyone thought.

I know I've done the same to other cars both in and out of the scoob on roads I know well as well.

I'm nowhere near as bad as I used to be... was almost always set on the "headbutt the horizon" mode when I was younger, didn't matter what car it was I had, the redline was hit in virtually all gears regardless. Am a lot more laid back these days, don't drive the STi as hard on a daily basis as I used to drive that old wagon, mind you the torque that the 2.5 has compared to the 2.0 I had makes a lot of difference as well, don't need to rev it as hard.

I do know what you mean with other cars trying it on, have found a few cars pushing on that I've followed and they try all manner of dangerous overtakes to "leave me in their dust", only for me to get past safely on the next straight and be right behind them again. I've found the best thing is to try and not be sucked in at all... if someone blasts past and you aren't in the mood or think they're acting like a tit then let them go and relax.

TBH, I think it was driving an old Disco V8 that helped me a lot, it's not a quick motor at all and I found it quite relaxing driving it and didn't bother at all if someone overtook, some of that has rubbed off while driving the STi now.

bring it on....i only play with big cars now!!!

you would be surprised by the number of posh folk with big toys that likes a wee blip here and then!

it doesn't really happen to me, don't know why. On the rare rare occasion it does though, I don't feel I have anything to prove to these guys and don't feel sucked in in the slightest. If the road opens out then i'm likely to speed up anyway, and if there are silly neds around at the time, then they can watch me disappear. :)

I dont really get hassled in the Scoob either... maybe its the age of it, small spoiler, small exhaust and relatively sedate way I drive the thing most of the time? I got the occasional 'test' in my Classics from time to time.

If I get someone driving close behind me, then I just downshift into 'the zone' and pop/bang(and possibly flame) a few times which usually forces them back a couple of car lengths minimum. :)

Cheers,

I don't get hassled either B)

Usually when the neds see that i'm female they'll think "must be her boyfriend's car" and don't bother egging me on for a race :)

Plus with the RA's high gearing and shifting around 2-3000 rpm it sounds faster than it goes and the knowledge that a slight press of the throttle will leave them for dead makes me chuckle :D

so is it only 'wee neds' that race then? i think not. i presume however you are talking about the saxo/106 crew etc. i feel there is a simple answer and its been said already n thats to ignore them. however am sure you didnt buy you scoob to pootle at 2000 rpm everywhere. i agree with iainc in the sense that in my 182 i drove on the redline everytime a was out and constantly looked for someone to push or 'test' and if am honest there were plenty who took the bait. however now my driving has calmed dramatically though this may be an age thing as am gettin old now (22 lol)

You know I have had a bit of hassle with other cars (and even VANS!!!) wanting to have a pop... Now, I'm no angel, If I think its safe, and the other party is getting on my t*ts then I'll just leave them, get a bit of distance , either that or let them go (hopefully they will) it depends on what the conditions are and the kind of mood that I am in...

the WORST one that I remember was when a van was tailgating me, I doubled the distance from the traffic in front (as your supposed to) I had no chance of overtaking the cars in front of me, so he started getting closer to me, giving all these aggressive hand signals, made a really dodgy manouver accross a roundabout to get past me and a few others, then, when the road opened out into a dual carridgeway, I went to get up to speed and pass him by, and he was swerving accross my path to block me, throwing stuff out the window and all sorts...

was very odd... was trying to have just a nice gentle drive home from work (was commuting daily 70 miles one way at the time!)

aye, they should know better than to mess with that 'red impreza' eh Dale :lol::lol::lol::lol:

serious though, I have had vans, and even once a lorry (go figure eh) try to get the better of me

well ;) to them

Nah, I'm not that red impreza... Ive not seen it about town for a good while now... Not that ive seen it more than a couple of times anyways...

Dunno if anyones seen it lately have they?

Unfortunately i get this sometimes even though i hardly use my car now. the worst is i've noticed a lot of the times it's now impreza's sitting right on my bumper trying to provoke you, had this twice last week going to work ( too cold for the bike now).

it's gonna give impreza drivers a bad name..

I had an amusing one earlier. Coming out of larkhall stuck behind 2 cars - one in front was doing about 40 in the 60 zone. It was a wee Saxo, dropped to the floor.

The three cars pulled onto the M74 sliproad and I went to the outside lane of it to pass them. Barely tickling the loud pedal and in quiet mode, so they wouldn't have known it was a scooby due to the darkness. As I pulled past them they suddenly realised it was a scooby and so suddenly the noise of the straight 3 french hair dryer yelps into life.

Whoop te do! You can drive eek out 75 down a motorway sliproad revving the bollocks off your car. You're the big man now.

I wouldn't think that they are trying to beat you, they jsut want to see a REAL car do its stuff.

That’s exactly it.

When I was 17/18yo A was one of them, not a super bam in any way:P thou i liked pissin big toys off so they would hoof it :o

"AWWWWW man pure dump valve man! "That was like a pure bus wan man"

Jokes aside, I probs still see my self doing that same thing in a higher bhp category. Me being ina uk2000 other being a STI. M3. M5. S4. etc etc etc you wana see the difference. And yes i agree 50-70mph safty etc / no twistys

But ay begger off bams :P jk i was one 7years ago
