big den Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Took the Scoob to Hypertech on Saturday to get the geometry set-up with Fast Road settings Dealer had given a try setting the geometry to reduce wear on outside edge of front tyres - bzzzzzzzz WRONG ANSWER!! Geometry was well out and now I know why I was understeering on right hand bends. Thanks to Dunc & Dunc Junior at Hypertech, it's all sorted. Great service and very genuine, helpful folk What a difference Wish I'd had this done on previous Scoobs now Den

Is it worth doing to a standard car? Cheers, Colin.
big den Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 If you don't mind me asking, how much did the set-up cost? Is it worth doing to a standard car?Cheers, Colin. No worries - it was £55 incl. the vat and took about 1.5 hours. I've not done that many miles since the settings were done but, I think it is definitely worth doing this to a standard car - my STi was still standard and I did not want to wear the outside of the front tyres like I have done with my last couple of STi's. I noticed an immediate difference - the car just feels more 'connected' to the road especially on the 'twisties.' There are other threads aswell where others have had this done and noticed the improvement. Den
gus the bus Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 (edited) Is it worth doing to a standard car?Cheers, Colin. Yes, always. The Subaru Standard set-up is poor IMHO. It runs with slightly positive camber hence the outside of your tyres become "feathered" and grip/feel isnt the best. Well worth spending £55 to get it right. Gus PS the Forester will be in to dunc next tuesday to get its Geo done (amongst a few other things ) Edited November 26, 2007 by Gus the Bus
fai17 Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 ...(amongst a few other things ) Go on spill the beans

thefastone Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 So far, Ive heard people saying great things about these settings, but also the Prodrive settings, and also the Group N settings.... so how do you choose then?
frank c Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 So far, Ive heard people saying great things about these settings, but also the Prodrive settings, and also the Group N settings....so how do you choose then? Trial and error I'm afraid.. Some folk like the Prodrive settings.......some don't.. Depends on your driving style I suppose.

Great service and very genuine, helpful folk What a difference Wish I'd had this done on previous Scoobs now Den I have an MY06 2.5 WRX & I've also noticed that the outside front edge's are not wearing well. So am I to assume after reading the other posts in this thread that changing the geometry will not only cure this but reduce the understeer & increase turn-in? If so could someone post the actual settings for "fast road" or Prodrive or both please so I can get mine set up. Why would Subaru make the standard set up with some positive camber & what advantage is this supposed to give us? Seems strange to me. I'm looking to get the prodrive springs fitted after christmas. So if I had the geometry changed now would I have to get it doen again with the new springs?
irn_bru Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 New tyres on and visit to Hypertech done.So far its like driving a new car.... but in a good way.
big den Posted November 27, 2007 Author Posted November 27, 2007 So far, Ive heard people saying great things about these settings, but also the Prodrive settings, and also the Group N settings....so how do you choose then? I did a search for previous posts about the geometry before I eventually went to Hypertech. From what I read it seems that 'Fast Road' & 'Group N' settings may be the same or very close. The previous posts also commented that the Prodrive settings can give/enhance the tramlining effect on our wonderful UK roads and was perhaps more suited to track days. Early days but so far am liking the 'Fast Road' settings!! Den

So am I to assume after reading the other posts in this thread that changing the geometry will not only cure this but reduce the understeer & increase turn-in? Wear on the outside edge was what I got on previous Sti's with the standard settings. You can also see a bit of 'feathering' across the tread. So this time I decided to get the geometry set-up with Fast Road settings. Not done a lot of miles so far but I can say it definitely seems to have cured my understeer and the car is cornering a lot better (not surprising really as I had slight negative camber on the OSF and positive camber on the NSF ) I understand that you may get some wear on the inside edge of the front tyres with the fast road settings though. If so could someone post the actual settings for "fast road" or Prodrive or both please so I can get mine set up. not 100% sure but I think the fast road was negative 1 degree on the front (however, they could only get mine to go negative 0.55 degrees - MY07 STI) but it has still made a difference. Why would Subaru make the standard set up with some positive camber & what advantage is this supposed to give us? Seems strange to me. No idea and apparently the tolerance on the 'standard' factory settings is quite wide aswell. I'm looking to get the prodrive springs fitted after christmas. So if I had the geometry changed now would I have to get it doen again with the new springs? You would probably be better waiting and getting the geometry done whe nyou get the springs fitted IMHO Cheers Den
