fai17 Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Forgot to say that i have driven a 2.5 with a VF34 and can say only 1 thing"Brilliant" But i have also driven a 2.5 with a GT30** and that was truely scary!!!
fai17 Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I was all set for the APS CAI system for my car but after a chat with Mr F about it he recommended staying with the stock airbox, green panel and a dedicated cold air feed rather than the inner-wing kit... something to do with the bend disrupting airflow and confusing the MAF in some cases. I'd rather not take the risk and can live without the noise, so stock airbox for me. This will be a really fast Foz...... be brilliant to see it finished off. Cheers, Grant That's what i have heard from him too....but only a RR/Crail will tell
gus the bus Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 That's what i have heard from him too....but only a RR/Crail will tell Now that I remember Mr F did say that to me to forget about the CAI and just put a cotton filter in with the bigger turbo. Thats probably why I bought and installed a cotton filter
gus the bus Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 Need to make sure you get the correct banjo bolts for the IHI VF34. The wrong banjo bolt can delay spool quite significantly. The TD04 is made by Mitsubishi and the VF34 is made by IHI. Grant, it did say that it came with the banjo bolt for the VF34
thewelsho Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 ... after a chat with Mr F about it he recommended staying with the stock airbox, green panel and a dedicated cold air feed rather than the inner-wing kit... something to do with the bend disrupting airflow and confusing the MAF in some cases. Said the same to me.
andrew_forrest Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 The APS cold air kit is ideal for the bigger turbos running 370+bhp but up to this level (on the newage cars) the std airbox with a decent filter would be my preferred option. I have read reports that removing the resonator box on the newage make a big difference to spool up, I know it makes a big improvement on the classics but new age resonators look far less restrictive. Still, its a cheap mod and will do no harm. Andy
Richie Cross Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 The wee bolty things that connect your oil supply pipe to the core of your turbo. The two different types of turbo have two different types of wee bolty things wi a hole and if you use the wrong one then the turbo disnae like it and it causes to mich drag on the main shaft which in turn can delay the spoolin of the turbo thingy Hope this explains what i am on about or is it still clear as mud Grant, why don't you work for Prodrive or the like???
Richie Cross Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Gus, you're a lucky barsteward!!! This would give folk a few surprises I bet! Money permitting, this is the route I'd love to go down!!! Welsho....your car running ok again now??
gus the bus Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 they no longer sell them but i did see thishttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/IHI-VF34-Ba...sspagenameZWD1V probably about £50 dearer but if its the difference between original/copy then worth it. Think I might go with this lot then! As you say its no more than £50 difference and atleast I'd get the "genuine" article. Cheers Jim Gus
st3ph3n Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Hmmm, VF34 only that price? Would need injectors too ...... next year for me perhaps.
z1000 Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 When i was looking for a 20g i was warned off the jap ones on ebay, no sure about the ihi ones but originals probably better. Gus i think you should get this bad boy on track as it would look the dogs blasting round knockers and should have plenty go the way your goin

Cheers, Grant Grant i was told the same by andy he said save your money and spend else where "i have had just as good results with stock box and green cotton filter "
