alank Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 Oh yeah - the really annoying part is they want just under £1600 if I want to buy the car for Salvage... I know it is not a bad offer but that was my pride and joy and I aint seen anything to compare it to for that kind of money... Of to the pub
boris b Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Jeeze mate. That is an absolute nightmare.. Name and shame the insurance company. Think it would be worth buying it back buddy
alank Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 Highway Insurance Have asked for dtls of what this "previous" accident damage is and going to check it out myself. Tempted to buy it back but not sure could fix it up myself and worried if it could be nightmare fix as noticed a slight cracking around the suspension posts which might indicate that chasis is bent.. Might be worth seeing if someone canc come out to the Salvage yard that actually could work out if it was fixable or not (and actually be able to do that as know I cant)
david_taylor Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Thats bad news Alan. I seen the assesor today about mine and he says I need new rear suspension, two wheels and tyres and two small dents in rear door and quarter popped out. My understanding is that if it costs less than 50% of the value of the car then they will fix it. According to What Car my model and year with the 100k on the clock is worth 5k. However the assesor said it will be less than 2k to repair My friend has agreed to let me store it at his garage and assist me braking it if its a goner, but praying its not. Keeping my fingers crossed as he is still to send his report! Hope you get a better offer mate, I do appriciate your predicament buddy. Dave
neill54 Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 thats not good alan having been through that nightmare before on my old mint golf cab a few years back lost a fortune and im insured through highway at the mo too! neil
T_H_E__C_R_O_W Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Ahh highway, what bad memories I have. It took me over a year to settle a deal with them (well actually for me to give up) They stole my car (took without me signing anything) sold it to a scrappies (i still have the v5 now!) and one of them nicked all the good bits off it, some very sentimental to me. Then gave me a crap valuation which i couldnt get re-done as no1 knew where my car was. A year later i got a just below market price which i took, and gave up chasing the rest of the problems just swore i will never go with them again. Keep fighting m8, its gona be a long one!!!
alank Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 (edited) Unfortunately one problem is that the car valuation as I gave them originally was approx 6K so to be fair they have covered that, I just didnt take into account the mods etc when asked the question when getting my insurance in the first place - doh!! I still have to collect my personals and plan on doing that on Monday Edited October 3, 2007 by alank
st3ph3n Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Alan, are the mods not worth more than 1,600? Or are they broken too. Just a thought that you could buy, nab the stuff you want off it then flog the rest of it back to a scrappys or breakers and use the good mods on anything new you get.

alank Posted October 2, 2007 Author Posted October 2, 2007 Probably but by the time I transport the car, store it, get the mods off (dont have the skill or tools to do so myself) and get it taken away not sure it is worth the hassle WhiteLine ARB & Drop Links F&B TSL Sport Cat downpipe & straight thru Centre Section, Pro Drive Back Box ECUTEK ECU ProDrive suspension & Wheels (eibachs & Bilsteins) EBC Discs & RefStuff Pads
Moley_WRX Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I would suggest reading about MarkP1's car before commenting, as he recently claimed on his modified car, and got a hell of a lot more than a standard car. Highway DO cover mods like for like, and if anyone has any doubts about this i'd suggest contacting either myself or Highway who would confirm this.
Moley_WRX Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Alan - i have just realised who you are. You insured your car with us for a maximum value of £6000, and they have actually offered you MORE than you valued the car at. Book price for a standard car is £4500, and they are offering you over £6000, yet you still think your mods aren't being taken into account???
alank Posted October 3, 2007 Author Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) Wish I had replied earlier to this and I appreciate the comments from others but this is taking a twist I dont agree with. Please take into account that this was more a rant about the time taken to get nowhere after comming of a call with Highways telling me my car wasnt in tip top condition and only mid book price than complaints about what was covered and what wasn't This was from my own standpoint and dont think it is something that should be going on to other aspects. As such I am removing my comments - as I said above it is not that bad considering that I had valued the car at 6K on my insurance and am now glad I added that to the thread! I am just suspicious of the way that events have turned out that the car is conveniently valued the same now taking into account the modifications that were not picked up on the initial inspection as the car was overvalued!?! I also dont appreciate my comments being posted elsewhere which takes this out of my control - it was a posted on this Scotish section for the purpose to share with friends that know what happened and the background and condition of the car - not to have a go at KM (as they have had nothing to do with this problem) but to vent some frustration at Highways for taking so long to come back to me with what appears to be on face value more excuses (like the one that the were too busy becuase of the floods down south, no offence but not really my problem or department I would have thought) To cover what is now removed - To clarify my complaint with Highways (and will take this up with them no doubt) are that it took a month for the first assessment then over a month for the 2nd and only came through when I complained that they had just sent a letter saying it was going to take another 2 weeks. Then when it did I am told that they made a mistake, my car has other damage (which it does not) and that the offer still stands as the mods plus the revised price of the car happens to be the same. I have actually pointed out earlier (as Gary has) that the insurance was for 6K which I thought was an approximation and did not take into account the mods originally so it's not a bad offer but doesnt stop me from wanting to go cry in a dark room. Now the next problem is that the guy selling the MY99 V5 STI wants over 8K as it has just had an engine rebuilt... any comments on that??? Edited October 3, 2007 by alank
Moley_WRX Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Hi Alan I understand your frustration completely, and the time companies take to assess the claims not always acceptable. I am glad they have offered you a good figure, even though it would have been better to get some more. Like i said on the phone my anger isn't directed at you in any way at all, as you had a completely legitimate complaint, which i will pass onto the claims department in our next meeting. I am just very disappointed in another persons comments, which they have no involvement or understanding in at all. I hope i didn't come accross as rude at all, but as you know Gmac's comments have caused a major problem this morning, which i hope i have now resolved. Hope you get a new car sorted asap Alan, and give me a call when you get it and we'll get the cover swapped over. If you get any problems you have my direct line number, and i'll be more than happy to help in any way i can. Gary
alank Posted October 3, 2007 Author Posted October 3, 2007 None taken Garry - have updated thread and also my last post to hopefully clarify my position a bit better. Speak soon.
