karps Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 OK i should no better, but went into Asda yesterday for about 10 minutes, came out and some f****r had dented my front wing and fecked off. Wasnt a door ding like youd expect but looks like they hit it with the bumber of their car. Took it to a bodyshop today and they quoted me £180 Got them to check the cctv but surprise surprise it "wasnt on that row" why cant people drive properly in car parks, its not rocket science. rant over Noel
4Hero Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Bummer mate, sorry to hear that. Take up 2 spaces, thats what I do after this happened to my last car.
craigwrx Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Most annoying that mate, i was even in the car once when someone opened there door into the side of my car ...if it was not for the wife and daughter being there, i most certainly would have regretted my actions ..
micra_wrc Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 (edited) feel for you Noel. It annoys me when that happens. I park over 2 spaces, furthest away from the main door, but still paranoid that i'll get door-dinged or trolley-bashed a la Nanaki. People have no regard for other cars nearby and seem to have less sense and awareness every day I was watching a woman help her two young daughters out from the back of her hatchback car (was a car with the folding driver seat) from the drivers side of the car, directly onto the busy main road with several cars passing.... I mean she didnt bother to use the passenger side, which would have let her children get out safely on to the pavement, but held her driver door open to let her 2 kids climb out, forcing other cars to swerve to avoid hitting her door as well as endangering her kids when they got out the car. the thing that gets me is that these 2 kids will now think it is ok to get out a car straight onto a main road.... scoobysailor Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I feel your pain!! It happened to me just before christmas last year, same story - no CCTV footage. I always park in the parent and toddler spaces now (I have got a toddler - before any one rants about that!!)
st3ph3n Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I think it's more than just people being careless. Spaces are too small in a lot of car parks. Cars are bigger than they used to be, even the wee ones. If you parked (properly) two average cars like a Focus and an Astra together in a lot of car parks then there's still not going to be loads of room to open the doors. People are careless or just don't give a damn too, that's fairly obvious. Thirdly you've got people who just can't park. They're the source of lots of problems - either dings to cars they hit, or because they've parked so poorly other people have to adjust how they park next to them and the knock on effect leaves cars too close together. Whilst taking two spaces in an empty retail park car park when there's 500 spaces going free might be alright, it's certainly not acceptable in busy places. There's an ####hole that takes 2 spaces at the station. There's not enough spaces to go around, and people usually invent spaces as it is. I think he learned his lesson when someone actually parked beside him anyway.
fai17 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I feel for you Neol....my car is full of dings... As for parking 2 spaces........eh someone might even cause you hassle for doing so. so best bet would be to park further away and no doubt a satellite will drop from the sky like on the telly!!

Would stongly advise against the 2 spaces thing. Firstly its just ignorant, and I admit p!sses me off. But you are defo more likely to get someone key the car as it actually attracts more attention to it. Just do what I do and park about a mile away at the furtherst part of the car park if possible. Pain mind you if you are trying to carry 2 cases of lager and then trying to get your keys out of your pocket!

For car parks I don't like, I always try to take the French oil burner, which having previously ben owned by a pensioner is no stranger to parking dents. With the Scoob, I always try to park at the back of the car park at the end of a row or similar so there is at worst only the change of getting hit at one side. However, when washing it on Saturday I noticed that some git has knocked the back of it and taken the paint off the bumper just above the number plate . Probably happened on the street outside my girlfriend's flat as I have watched people bouncing off cars to get into spaces before. There was much swearing! Really annoys me people just don't respect others cars.
Dougie C Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Sorry to hear Noel about your car mate!!! Also annoys me when I have a blue badge and some people that are parked in them don't display a badge and if there isnt any blue badge holder spaces then I have to park my car in 2 normal spaces unless I get an end one to get into my wheelchair. Dougie C
vicki Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Car parks are a constant nightmare for me too. I get dinked all the time in my work car park. I part in the furthest away space and sometimes go slightly over a zig zag bit at end of row, still leaving room for people to get through to exit. Got told by car park sergent major not to take up two spaces. I explained I wasn't, that my door gets hit etc, but it fell on deaf ears, so I no longer went slightly over the line. Now someone bl$$dy parks there and every other zig zag bit in the car park. It makes me want to go mental. My stress levels go through the roof with careless idiots who hit your door and don't give a toss

Dougie C Dougie this does my head in too. Inconsiderate idiots. I sit and watch people do this, especially from the Ikea cafe. I want to jump out the window and attach them. Oh my god, I need to calm down

RS Grant Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I park over two spaces in the Scoob and will continue to do so.. but the times I get to drive that mean the Supermarket/Public Car Parks are very quiet so its pretty acceptable IMO. For busy car parks through the day then I'll take the company car along, however, I still get very pi$$ed off if something happens to it............... for instance, I parked on the street outside my house the other night and came out to find a scuff, possibly a football, possibly a bumper on the rear bumper of the company car. Not a fan, specially as I live in a very quiet cul de sac meaning it was a neighbour. Cheers, Grant

Glad I have em eh! Edited August 27, 2007 by dtabbit77
z1000 Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Rather than take up extra spaces and piss people off i always choose the car i park beside and try and get on an end space, i:e people carrier with kiddy seats means mum/shopping/kids/carelessness another performance/expensive car means there less likely to risk bashing their car Luckily i live in the sticks so can park right at the door with no battling for spaces with flat cap wearing old codgers and their bumper car parking attempts
oz *sti* Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Bad news there mate, hope you get it all sorted out.
colzo Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Not so good news mate, hate it when things like that happen. If using the Scooby for shopping then tend to go at night when there are more spaces.
iain01 Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 taking up 2 spaces highlights your car and pisses people off. I park as far away as possible or pick which cars i park next to as said before by dtabbit77. Then fill trolley with cases of stella(king of beers) £10 for a case at tesco and trundle it gently towards your undinged car with a smile on your face drive home and enjoy.
